Wuwei Heavy-Ion Center Launches "Belt and Road" Medical Cooperation

On May 30, Mr. Abudukali Aniwar and his delegation from Kazakhstan visited the Heavy-Ion Center of Wuwei Cancer Hospital (affiliated with Gansu Provincial Cancer Hospital) for medical cooperation discussions. During the meeting, Mr. Aniwar highly praised Wuwei's urban development, China's heavy-ion technology, and the hospital's comprehensive, whole-life-cycle cancer health management model. He emphasized the broad prospects for China-Kazakhstan medical collaboration, noting that after the mutual visa exemption policy takes effect in August, experts from Astana Cancer Center (Kazakhstan) will visit Wuwei for academic exchanges. He also expressed hope for reciprocal visits by Wuwei experts to Kazakh hospitals for academic and medical cooperation.

Ye Yancheng, President of Wuwei Cancer Hospital, announced plans to establish a demonstration and reception center for China's heavy-ion therapy system at the China-Kazakhstan Horgos International Border Cooperation Center. This center will facilitate exchanges among experts, academics, and patients across Belt and Road countries, advancing the Belt and Road Initiative and contributing to the Healthy Silk Road.

Since signing a strategic medical cooperation agreement with Horgos Zhongjing International Company in 2021, the hospital has entered a substantive phase of international collaboration with Belt and Road countries. In 2022, Georgian Ambassador to China Archil Kalandia inspected the center, followed by recent treatments for patients from Belgium and other nations, marking the beginning of China's heavy-ion services for international patients. This progress actively responds to President Xi Jinping's national strategy for Belt and Road development.

As China's first clinical application center for domestically developed heavy-ion systems, the Wuwei center has operated successfully for over three years since its launch in March 2020. To date, it has treated more than 740 patients with complex tumors in areas such as the head, pancreas, and lungs. Patients originate from all regions of China (including Hong Kong and Taiwan) and countries like Belgium and Luxembourg.

Building on this foundation, the center is establishing China's first "Cancer Rehabilitation Town," featuring a holistic health management system integrating:

Comprehensive tumor therapy

Dietary management

Mental and physical health support

Traditional Chinese medicine

Rehabilitation physiotherapy

Biological immune cell therapy

Horticultural and cultural therapies
