Medical Team Strengthened: Renowned Radiotherapy Expert Yu Zhilong Officially Joins Our Hospital
Professor Yu Zhilong, a leading radiotherapy expert from the Affiliated Hospital of Inner Mongolia Medical University and consultant at the CNNC Heavy Ion Consultation Center, officially joined the Wuwei Heavy Ion Center on August 9, 2025. His engagement includes a series of academic activities such as clinical rounds across radiotherapy departments, participation in multidisciplinary discussions on complex cases, and guidance on advanced radiotherapy technologies.

As a senior expert in radiotherapy, Yu holds the titles of Chief Physician and Master's Supervisor. He is recognized for his pioneering roles in establishing key academic committees in Inner Mongolia, including serving as the Founding Chair of the Radiology Oncology Branch of the Inner Mongolia Medical Association and the Radiotherapy Physicians Branch of the Inner Mongolia Medical Doctor Association. He is also Director of the Inner Mongolia Radiotherapy Quality Control Center and recipient of the First "Bethune-style Good Doctor" Nomination Award and "People's Good Doctor of Inner Mongolia" (2018). His clinical expertise spans radiotherapy and comprehensive treatment for malignancies such as nasopharyngeal carcinoma, laryngeal cancer, brain tumors, lung cancer, breast cancer, esophageal cancer, liver cancer, kidney cancer, prostate cancer, bladder cancer, cervical cancer, lymphoma, and benign conditions, with specialized proficiency in Gamma Knife therapy.

His joining marks a significant milestone for Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital in advancing its "Heavy Ion Therapy Alliance" and establishing 50 expert workstations. As the only global hospital operating dual heavy ion therapy systems, the hospital has treated over 2,096 patients since March 2020, covering 50+ cancer types including lung, pancreatic, and liver cancers, with patients from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Australia, Belgium, South Korea, and Malaysia.


During clinical rounds, Professor Yu meticulously reviewed patient conditions and treatment progress, emphasizing personalized therapeutic strategies based on individual health status, tumor type, and stage. He highlighted that oncology treatment requires integrated approaches considering multiple factors.

His expertise will elevate the center's clinical capabilities. Moving forward, Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital will continue to strengthen the Heavy Ion Therapy Alliance and expert workstations. Under the leadership of Professor Yu and other distinguished experts (Lan Shengmin, Zhang Yingdong, Ma Changying, Fan Ruitai), the Wuwei Heavy Ion Center is poised to achieve groundbreaking advancements in cancer treatment, offering renewed hope to patients globally.
