Industry leader Professor Liu Qiufang joins our hospital, empowering a new journey in cancer diagnosis and treatment.
On December 29, Professor Liu Qiufang, a senior expert in radiotherapy from Shaanxi Cancer Hospital, visited the Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital to provide regular clinical guidance and specialized outpatient services. Through the dual-driven model of "frontline mentoring and guidance + precise individualized diagnosis and treatment," she offers core support for the high-quality development of the center's radiotherapy discipline and the leapfrog improvement of clinical service standards. This strongly demonstrates our hospital's new pattern of high-quality medical services, characterized by the localization of high-end medical resources and the normalization of top-tier expert services.

As an authoritative expert in tumor radiotherapy, Professor Liu Qiufang has dedicated nearly three decades to this field, accumulating profound experience in precise radiotherapy and multidisciplinary comprehensive treatment for malignant tumors such as lung cancer, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, and breast cancer, forming a distinctive diagnosis and treatment system. She has led or participated in over twenty provincial and municipal research projects, published more than forty papers (including seven SCI-indexed papers), and played a key role in compiling the 2020 Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO) Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma Guidelines. Her research findings and professional insights have been integrated into industry standards, providing crucial academic support for the standardized treatment of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Her professional expertise has earned high recognition in the industry.

In recent years, Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital has achieved significant results in promoting the heavy ion treatment alliance and establishing fifty expert workstations. As the only hospital in the world operating two heavy ion treatment systems simultaneously, Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital remains committed to the continuous development and innovation of cancer treatment technologies. The Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center is the second heavy ion clinical application center in China with independent intellectual property rights operated by Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital. The system was put into clinical operation at the Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center on November 15, 2024. To date, the center has completed photon and heavy ion treatments for over 400 patients, covering diseases such as lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, liver cancer, and glioblastoma.
Professor Liu Qiufang's visit and guidance exemplify the Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center's philosophy of "gathering cutting-edge global technologies to benefit cancer patients worldwide." The center not only focuses on introducing internationally advanced heavy ion treatment technologies and inviting experts from Japan, Germany, and other countries for technical exchanges but also actively recruits top domestic clinical experts. Through ward rounds, consultations, lectures, and other forms, it promotes standardized clinical practices, homogenizes diagnosis and treatment levels, and continuously strengthens the discipline's intrinsic development.

In the future, the Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital will continue to expand its pool of top experts, improve the integrated talent cultivation system of "medical treatment, education, research, and application," and build a solid defense for the lives and health of patients in Gansu and surrounding regions with a stronger team of talents, more precise treatment technologies, and higher-quality medical services. This will ensure that the benefits of "China's heavy ion technology" spread its light across Northwest China.
