Under the warm early summer sun, Gansu gathers its strength as a new chapter in medicine begins. On May 6, the unveiling ceremony of the Wuwei Subcenter of the National Clinical Research Center for Digestive Diseases and the project promotion exchange meeting on the establishment and application of new risk stratification methods and sequential screening strategies for upper gastrointestinal cancer were successfully held at Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital. This is the first subcenter of the National Clinical Research Center for Digestive Diseases in Gansu Province, marking that following the recognition of the Department of Gastroenterology at Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital as a national key discipline (with a three-year cultivation period), the diagnosis and treatment of digestive diseases in Wuwei has officially entered a new phase of national-level clinical medical research.

The hospital's leadership team and representatives of the staff also participated, jointly witnessing the entry of Wuwei's clinical medical research on digestive tumors into a new national-level development stage.

The ceremony was hosted by Nie Peng, Vice President of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital. During the address session, Academician Fan Daiming provided important guidance based on the national strategy for gastrointestinal disease prevention and control, clinical research translation, and the construction of regional cancer early screening systems, pointing the way for the standardized development and high-quality growth of the Wuwei Subcenter. Ye Yancheng, President of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital, stated that the hospital will take the opportunity of building a national-level subcenter, leveraging national platform resources and technical advantages, to strengthen discipline development, deepen clinical research, enhance early cancer screening and treatment, improve the comprehensive diagnosis and treatment system for upper gastrointestinal cancer, and boost the regional capacity for digestive disease diagnosis, treatment, and research translation. Yang Lu, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Director of the Wuwei Municipal Health Commission, noted that the establishment of the subcenter in Wuwei will help upgrade the city's digestive disease and cancer prevention and treatment system. By relying on the high-end platform and expert support, it will address regional prevention and treatment gaps, optimize screening and intervention models, protect public health, and promote the high-quality development of healthcare services.

During the academic exchange session, Academician Fan Daiming opened with a lecture titled "New Perspectives on Integrative Medicine," providing high-level guidance from the perspectives of medical innovation and iterative clinical thinking, which sparked deep reflection and resonance among the attending medical professionals. Subsequently, Professor Zhou Yongning from the First Hospital of Lanzhou University delivered a presentation on "Building a Gastric Cancer Prevention and Control System in Wuwei, a High-Incidence Region," systematically elaborating on the practical pathway for establishing a localized, full-chain prevention and control system based on the characteristics of high gastric cancer incidence in the Wuwei region. Professor Sun Liping from the First Hospital of China Medical University shared cutting-edge diagnostic concepts and clinical application experiences in her lecture titled "Practice and Exploration in Gastric Cancer Prevention and Treatment." Professor Ye Yancheng presented a special report entitled "Clinical Report and Research Progress of Heavy Ion Therapy in Wuwei," comprehensively demonstrating the clinical application achievements and research advancements of heavy ion technology in the field of oncology, highlighting the hospital's strong capabilities in precision cancer therapy.
