During his visit, accompanied by Chen Hongbing, Director of the Gastrointestinal Surgery Department, Professor Chen Gong first conducted teaching ward rounds. He carefully examined each hospitalized patient with gastrointestinal tumors, patiently inquired about their medical history and symptoms, meticulously reviewed medical records and imaging studies, and developed individualized treatment plans for complex and challenging cases based on the latest domestic and international clinical guidelines. He also engaged in in-depth discussions with the department's medical and nursing team on key issues such as perioperative management, complication prevention and control, and standardized tumor diagnosis and treatment processes, answering questions and sharing clinical experience on the spot.

During the live surgical guidance session, Professor Chen Gong took the lead in directing the department team and successfully completed two high-level laparoscopic radical resections for rectal cancer, while simultaneously providing live surgical instruction to hospital staff and online peers. Adhering strictly to the principles of tumor‑free surgery and radical resection standards in oncological surgery, he demonstrated exceptional technical skill, precisely dissecting pelvic tissues, properly transecting diseased vessels, and systematically performing regional lymph node dissection. The entire procedure was characterized by minimal trauma, negligible bleeding, and clear anatomical layering. While skillfully manipulating the surgical instruments, Professor Chen provided detailed explanations of key aspects, including laparoscopic port placement, instrument handling techniques, strategies for protecting vital pelvic nerves and blood vessels, and management of intraoperative emergencies. Through step‑by‑step demonstrations and detailed teaching, he enabled both on‑site and online observers to intuitively grasp the standardized surgical workflow and core technical essentials.

The successful completion of this live laparoscopic radical resection for rectal cancer teaching session marks another significant step forward for our hospital in the field of minimally invasive gastrointestinal oncology surgery. It fully demonstrates the core advantages of laparoscopic technology in the treatment of colorectal tumors—minimally invasive, precise, and offering fast recovery—while also expanding the reach of technical education through live surgical broadcasts. This event has laid a solid foundation for our hospital's future routine performance of standardized laparoscopic colorectal tumor surgery and the establishment of a regional minimally invasive technology exchange platform. Professor Chen Gong's visit is an important initiative by Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital to actively introduce top-tier domestic medical resources and vigorously enhance its comprehensive diagnostic and treatment capabilities for gastrointestinal tumors. Through a comprehensive teaching model combining clinical ward rounds and live surgical instruction, the visit has effectively aligned our hospital's Gastrointestinal Surgery Department with cutting-edge minimally invasive diagnostic and treatment techniques, addressing technical gaps and improving diagnostic and treatment standards.

In the future, our hospital will continue to strengthen the development of key specialties, regularly invite renowned domestic experts for academic exchanges, ward round teaching, and surgical guidance, and deepen our expertise in core areas such as laparoscopic minimally invasive techniques and standardized comprehensive tumor diagnosis and treatment. With more advanced medical skills and higher quality diagnostic and treatment services, we aim to provide efficient, precise, and minimally invasive care for patients with gastrointestinal tumors in the Northwest region, effectively safeguarding the health and lives of the general population.
