Exploring the National Pride, Safeguarding Youth Health
—— Liangzhou District Youth Visit Heavy Ion Center for Medical Science Outreach Practice
To leverage the hospital’s public welfare and science outreach functions and utilize the resource advantages of the Wuwei Heavy Ion Center—a "national pride" facility—a platform was established for young people to engage with cutting-edge medical technology and learn health knowledge. On April 10, the Communist Youth League Committee of Liangzhou District, the Youth League Committee of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital, and the Women’s Committee successfully organized the "Exploring the National Pride · Safeguarding Youth Health" youth science outreach practice at the Wuwei Heavy Ion Center. The event was attended by 130 representatives, including Young Pioneers and League members from Wuwei Gonghe Street Primary School.

During the activity, participants, guided by professional docents, toured the Heavy Ion Inpatient Department, Research Building, and Main Building in sequence. Through scale models and animated demonstrations, the students systematically learned about the hospital’s development journey, the principles of heavy-ion therapy technology, equipment functions, and the advantages of precision cancer diagnosis and treatment. They gained a genuine appreciation for the technological appeal of this top-tier medical advancement and China’s leading position in the global oncology field. In the interactive Q&A session, everyone engaged enthusiastically, showcasing a strong interest in medical science and technology.

Professional emergency responders from the hospital conducted a practical first-aid knowledge outreach session. Focusing on common emergency scenarios in schools and households, they explained the core essentials of handling various sudden incidents in simple, understandable language. This helped students intuitively grasp first-aid skills, enhancing their ability to protect themselves, respond to emergencies, and provide initial assistance to others, thereby adding a layer of safety to their daily study and life.
Subsequently, Dr. Li Qinchun from the Heavy Ion Rehabilitation Department, Chief Physician Han Dong from the Stomatology Department, and Dr. Wang Ru from the Ophthalmology Department delivered themed science lectures on hot topics such as adolescent mental health, oral care, and eye protection. Using accessible language, they shared practical health knowledge and addressed common health concerns during growth.

By combining site visits, hands-on training, and expert lectures, this activity allowed young people to experience the grandeur of the national pride facility up close, boosting their health literacy and scientific awareness. The event received unanimous praise. Participants expressed that it not only broadened their technological horizons but also equipped them with applicable health and first-aid skills, making it a highly rewarding experience.
Moving forward, the Youth League Committee of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital will strengthen communication and collaboration with the Communist Youth League Committee of Liangzhou District. Upholding the principle of "health first," the hospital will regularly organize such youth science outreach activities, deepen medical-educational synergy, and build a regionally distinctive health science outreach brand. By leveraging professional medical expertise, the hospital aims to safeguard the healthy growth of young people and support them in pursuing their dreams.
