National Experts Available Daily: Leading Physicians Usher in a New Era of Precision Radiotherapy

From March 10th to 13th, Professor Fan Ruitai, a renowned expert in the field of tumor radiotherapy from the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, visited the Heavy Ion Campus of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital for a four-day engagement involving ward rounds, multidisciplinary consultations, and expert clinics. By introducing high-quality national-level medical resources, this initiative further enhances our hospital's comprehensive tumor diagnosis and treatment capabilities, allowing local patients to access high-level medical services close to home.

Professor Fan Ruitai is a Level 2 Professor, Chief Physician, and Doctoral and Postdoctoral Supervisor. He serves as the Academic Leader for the Key Clinical Specialty of Oncology at the Ministry of Health, a Standing Committee Member of the Chinese Medical Association's Radiation Oncology Committee, and the Chairperson of the Henan Provincial Medical Association's Radiation Oncology Committee, among numerous other significant academic positions. He has accumulated extensive clinical experience in the field of precision radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma, lung cancer, esophageal cancer, breast cancer, and head and neck tumors, and enjoys a high reputation in the radiotherapy community in China.

During his visit, Professor Fan Ruitai conducted a series of substantive clinical guidance activities, deeply engaging with the Radiotherapy Department ward and the Heavy Ion Therapy Center. During ward rounds, he meticulously examined patients with complex and severe conditions, carefully reviewing their medical histories and imaging data. Analyzing the evolution of each patient's condition and their response to treatment, he engaged in collaborative discussions with our hospital's medical and nursing teams, offering personalized treatment recommendations. In multidisciplinary consultations, Professor Fan provided detailed explanations and precise evaluations for complex cases, particularly focusing on the formulation of comprehensive radiotherapy treatment strategies. This helped the teams broaden their diagnostic and therapeutic perspectives and standardize operational procedures. During his expert clinics, he patiently attended to patients who sought his expertise, diligently interpreting imaging reports and providing authoritative diagnostic and treatment opinions based on clinical staging. His efforts were highly praised by both patients and their families.

Since its official clinical launch in March 2020, the Wuwei Heavy Ion Center has treated over 2,700 patients, covering more than 50 disease types. Patients hail from all provinces, municipalities, autonomous regions across China, including Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, and the center has also attracted international patients seeking its expertise. This invitation to Professor Fan Ruitai for specialized radiotherapy guidance not only provided local and surrounding residents with convenient access to high-level diagnostic and treatment services from a national-level expert but also marks a solid step forward for our hospital in perfecting the comprehensive "Precision Radiotherapy – Comprehensive Treatment" system.
