On December 23, Professor Liu Zi from the Department of Radiation Oncology at The First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University officially joined the Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital in a regular resident mode​. Through the innovative model of "precision diagnosis and treatment + technology inheritance", she will inject top-tier professional expertise into the field of gynecological oncology radiotherapy at our hospital.

As a leading expert in gynecological tumor radiation therapy with over forty years of clinical experience, Professor Liu Zi has profound expertise in the precise radiotherapy and comprehensive treatment of malignant tumors such as cervical cancer, endometrial cancer, and ovarian cancer . She is highly proficient in several advanced technologies including 3D conformal radiation therapy, intensity-modulated radiation therapy, intraoperative radiation therapy, 3D afterloading radiotherapy, and radioactive seed implantation therapy, possessing unique insights and extensive experience particularly in the prevention and treatment of pelvic tissue radiation injury.

During her residence, Professor Liu Zi conducted in-depth teaching rounds in the radiotherapy wards and engaged in thorough discussions with the medical team on typical cases . Focusing on the technical characteristics of heavy ion therapy, she emphasized precise contouring of target areas for gynecological tumors, personalized design of radiotherapy plans, and the combined application of heavy ion and afterloading radiotherapy techniques. Through a "hands-on teaching" approach, she aims to enhance the refinement level of diagnosis and treatment within our medical team.

Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital , as the second clinical application center in China for heavy ion technology with independent intellectual property rights operated by the hospital, commenced clinical operation on November 15, 2024 . It is also the only hospital globally operating two heavy ion treatment systems simultaneously . As of now, the center has completed photon and heavy ion treatment for over 400 patients, covering disease types such as lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, liver cancer, and glioma.

Professor Liu Zi's visit and guidance exemplify the Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center's philosophy of "gathering global cutting-edge technologies to universally benefit cancer patients worldwide" .
