The Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center is honored to invite Professor Yasuo Yoshioka, Department of Radiation Oncology at the Cancer Institute Hospital of Japanese Foundation for Cancer Research, to provide clinical guidance at our center.  

From August 25 to 26, Professor Yoshioka will conduct a special outpatient clinic, offering patients internationally standardized personalized treatment plans. He will also conduct in-depth ward rounds, collaborating with our medical team to discuss complex cases and share cutting-edge international perspectives on radiotherapy concepts and treatment experiences.  

Professor Yoshioka possesses profound academic expertise and extensive clinical experience in the field of tumor radiotherapy. His visit will bring invaluable international diagnostic and therapeutic insights to our center.

Yasuo Yoshioka is a Japanese brachytherapy specialist and radiation oncologist, with primary expertise in the radiotherapy of prostate cancer, including high-dose-rate (HDR) and low-dose-rate (LDR) brachytherapy, intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), and stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT). As a leading authority in the field of high-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy, he is also the pioneer of the world's first HDR monotherapy for prostate cancer. His groundbreaking clinical experience has established a milestone in the advancement of this field.

Lanzhou Heavy Ion Research Center

Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital is a state-owned public Grade III Class A specialized cancer hospital. The Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center is the second heavy ion clinical application center in China utilizing domestically developed intellectual property rights, operated by Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital. Together with the first Chinese heavy ion therapy system, the second Chinese heavy ion tumor treatment system was put into clinical operation at the Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center on November 15, 2024. To date, the center has completed photon and heavy ion treatments for over 230 patients, covering diseases such as lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, liver cancer, and glioblastoma.  

The Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center has established an elite talent system, building an expert workstation led by 50 top authorities in the field, including Shen Wenjiang, Lifetime Honorary Professor of the Department of Radiation Oncology at Peking University Health Science Center, and Professor Xu Bo, Standing Committee Member of the Radiation Oncology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association. Professor Wang Junjie, Chairman of the Radiation Oncology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, serves as the center's director, providing strong technical support for heavy ion therapy.  

The facility is equipped with a range of cutting-edge medical devices, including the Varian VitalBeam medical linear accelerator, Elekta Infinity four-dimensional image-guided linear accelerator, 3.0T simulation and positioning MRI, GE 256-slice high-end CT, and Varian Ir-192 imported afterloader. These advanced hardware facilities lay a solid foundation for heavy ion therapy, ensuring efficient and precise treatment processes.

The hospital aims to establish a comprehensive, full-life-cycle tumor treatment system, offering departments such as the Department of Radiation Oncology, Department of Medical Oncology/Hematology, Department of Surgical Oncology, Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Oncology Rehabilitation Department, Department of Critical Care Medicine, Digestive Endoscopy Center, Department of Imaging, Department of Laboratory Medicine, Department of Ultrasound Medicine, Blood Bank, and Hematology Center Laboratory. It provides photon radiotherapy, chemotherapy, heavy ion therapy, medical and surgical comprehensive treatments, as well as imaging, medical laboratory testing, ultrasound, and bone marrow cytology examinations.
