Carbon‑ion radiotherapy is internationally recognized as a cutting‑edge cancer treatment technology. The Heavy Ion Center of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital is the clinical application site for China's first and second carbon‑ion therapy systems with independent intellectual property rights. Since its clinical launch in March 2020, the center has accumulated extensive experience in heavy ion facility development, clinical application, and operational management, with over 3,000 patients treated to date. In terms of clinical application, technological development, annual patient throughput, treatment of major tumor types, and clinical outcomes, the center has achieved a level comparable to that of leading domestic and international institutions in the field.

As multiple medical institutions across the country are currently planning to establish proton and heavy ion centers, efforts are underway to promote the advancement and high?quality development of proton and heavy ion radiotherapy in China, and to address the growing demand for specialized talent and training systems in the domestic particle radiotherapy sector. To strengthen the exchange and sharing of clinical and radiophysical research experience, the "International Symposium on Clinical Application of China's Carbon?Ion Therapy System" and the "International Training Course on Clinical Application of China's Carbon?Ion Therapy System (Third Session)," organized by the Wuwei Medical Association, the Macao Convention and Exhibition Industry Association, and Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital, are scheduled to be held in Wuwei from September 16 to 20, 2026. The conferences will focus on technological innovation, industrial development, and clinical application of particle radiotherapy equipment, providing an in‑depth analysis of industry trends and showcasing the latest technological achievements. Dedicated sessions will be held on discipline development and practical experience sharing, aiming to promote the safe and effective clinical application of domestically produced carbon‑ion radiotherapy equipment, accelerate the high‑quality development of the industry, and enhance the standard of particle radiotherapy services in China.

The training course will feature lectures delivered by international experts from Japan, Singapore, and other countries, combining classroom learning with site visits and hands‑on practical sessions. Participants who complete the full course and pass the final assessment will be awarded 5 credits under the National Continuing Education Program (Project No.: 2026‑09‑03‑431 (National)) and will receive a certificate of completion for the International Training Course on Clinical Application of China's Carbon‑Ion Therapy System. Professionals and researchers in related fields are warmly invited to attend, learn, and exchange ideas.
