Carbon-ion radiotherapy is internationally recognized as a cutting-edge cancer treatment technology. The Heavy Ion Center of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital is the clinical application site for China's first and second carbon-ion therapy systems with fully independent intellectual property rights. Since its clinical commissioning in March 2020, the center has built up substantial experience in heavy-ion centre construction, clinical practice and operational management, with over 3,200 patients treated and discharged. In respect of heavy-ion radiotherapy clinical practice, technological development, annual patient treatment volume, management of key tumor types and treatment outcomes, the centre has reached the standard of comparable institutions both in China and overseas.

A number of medical institutions nationwide are in the process of constructing proton-heavy-ion centres. To boost the advancement and high-quality development of proton-heavy-ion radiotherapy in China, meet the domestic particle-radiotherapy sector's demand for specialized professionals and training systems, and strengthen the exchange and sharing of clinical and radiophysical research experience, the "International Symposium on Clinical Application of China's Carbon-Ion Therapy System" and the "International Training Course on Clinical Application of China's Carbon-Ion Therapy System (Session 3)," organized by the Wuwei Medical Association, the Macao Convention & Exhibition Industry Union, and Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital, are scheduled to be held in Wuwei from September 16 to 20, 2026. The conferences will focus on technological innovation, industrial development, and clinical application of particle radiotherapy equipment, providing an in-depth analysis of industry trends and showcasing the latest technological achievements. Dedicated sessions will be held on discipline development and practical experience sharing, aiming to promote the safe and effective clinical application of domestically produced carbon-ion radiotherapy equipment, accelerate the high-quality development of the industry, and enhance the standard of particle radiotherapy services in China.

The training course will invite international experts from Japan, Singapore and other countries to deliver on-site lectures at the hospital, combining classroom lectures, on-site visits and hands-on practice sessions. Participants completing the full training curriculum and passing the assessment will obtain 5 continuing-education credits from China's National Continuing Education Program (Project ID: 2026-09-03-431 [State-level]) and will receive a certificate of completion for the International Training Course on Clinical Application of China's Carbon-Ion Therapy System. Professionals and researchers in related fields are warmly invited to attend, learn, and exchange ideas.
