"Mother's River · Tumor Prevention and Treatment Public Welfare Project": Illuminating Hope for Women with Breast and Cervical Cancer​

✿ ​In response to the national strategy of "Healthy China," leveraging the strength of social organizations to promote the development of healthcare and continuous improvement of public health, the "Mother's River · Tumor Prevention and Treatment Public Welfare Project" initiated by the Bethune Public Welfare Foundation has been established at Lanzhou Heavy Ion Hospital. Through humanitarian aid for low-income women with cancer, the project alleviates financial burdens, prevents illness-induced poverty, and ultimately keeps families intact by saving mothers.

✦ Recipients of Assistance ✦

Women diagnosed with breast cancer or cervical cancer requiring radiotherapy.

✦ Assistance Standards ✦

Financial support covers personal out-of-pocket expenses after reimbursement through basic medical insurance, major medical insurance, and medical assistance programs, with a maximum of 10,000 RMB per person. First-phase assistance: 50 beneficiaries.

✦ Eligibility Criteria​ ✦

(1) Medical Conditions​

1. Confirmed diagnosis by a project-partner hospital​ meeting assistance criteria;

2. No contraindications to radiotherapy, with medical approval for treatment.

(2) Economic Conditions​

3. Priority given to holders of ​low-income certificates, ​special hardship certificates, poverty registration certificates, rural social welfare recipients (covering food, clothing, housing, healthcare, and funeral expenses) certificates, urban residents without income, family support, or working capacity, or recipients of regular department subsidies;

4. Documentation proving family low-income or poverty status.

(3) Assistance applies only to patients treated at project-partner hospitals.​​

Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center has established an outstanding talent ecosystem with an elite cohort of experts. The center has built expert workstations led by 50 renowned authorities, including Emeritus Professor Shen Wenjiang from the Department of Radiation Oncology at Peking University Health Science Center and Standing Committee Member Xu Bo​ of the Chinese Society for Radiation Oncology. Professor Wang Junjie, Chairperson of the Chinese Society for Radiation Oncology, serves as the center's President, providing robust technical leadership for heavy ion therapy.

Equipped with cutting-edge medical facilities, the center houses:

These advanced systems form the technical foundation for precision and efficiency in heavy ion therapy.

In collaboration with China's first domestically-developed heavy ion treatment system, the second Chinese heavy ion tumor treatment system commenced clinical operation at Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center on November 15, 2024. The center features four treatment cabins:
