— Monthly Patient Health Education Session Held at Lanzhou Campus of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital
To institutionalize cancer health education, strengthen doctor-patient communication, and effectively alleviate patients’ anxiety during diagnosis and treatment, the Lanzhou Campus of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital recently held its monthly patient health education session at the Physical Examination Center as scheduled. The event adopted a format combining expert lectures with one-on-one on-site consultations, balancing professional knowledge dissemination with personalized guidance. It fostered lively interaction, conveyed essential information on cancer prevention and control, and further bridged the gap between medical professionals and patients, nurturing a harmonious doctor-patient relationship.

During the event, multidisciplinary experts took turns delivering targeted, tiered presentations on prevalent cancers. First, Director Zhao Hui from the Nursing Department lectured on Cancer Epidemiology. Drawing on authoritative epidemiological data and real-world clinical cases, she systematically outlined current trends in cancer incidence, key high-risk factors, and core strategies for comprehensive prevention and control. Her talk specifically addressed common misconceptions—such as excessive fear of cancer and narrow understanding of prevention—while emphasizing the importance of science-based prevention and standardized chronic disease management.

She analyzed how unhealthy lifestyle habits—such as staying up late, high-fat diets, and emotional imbalance—relate to tumor development. Attendees were guided to adopt healthier daily routines and dietary habits, and equipped with actionable methods for regular self-examination and cancer prevention.

Dr. Qiao Hongmei, Director of the Fifth Radiotherapy Department, delivered an in-depth talk on Prevention and Treatment of Gastrointestinal Tumors. Her presentation covered fundamental knowledge, essentials of radiotherapy, early screening techniques, key observations for home monitoring, and management of adverse reactions during chemoradiotherapy. She also shared insights from successful clinical recovery cases. Addressing common concerns such as treatment options, follow-up schedules, and post-operative care, Dr. Qiao clarified misunderstandings about cancer therapy and recovery, encouraging a rational and scientific approach to the entire treatment cycle.
