In the height of summer, Lanzhou – the Golden City – pulses with scientific and technological innovation as a major fair unfolds, bringing together bright minds from across Gansu. Recently, the 32nd China Lanzhou Investment and Trade Fair was grandly held. As a cutting-edge scientific achievement in the field of nuclear medicine, our hospital's core heavy ion tumor treatment technology made a major appearance at the fair. With its robust technological strength and mature clinical application system, the exhibition highlighted the innovative breakthroughs and industrial achievements of heavy ion therapy in advanced oncology. It became a standout feature in the health and technology innovation section of this year's Lanzhou Fair, drawing the attention of numerous government officials, business representatives, industry experts, and local residents, who stopped to observe, exchange ideas, and seek more information.

This year's Lanzhou Fair is centered on the core themes of "openness, innovation, cooperation, and development," with a focus on leveraging scientific and technological innovation to drive industrial upgrading and the high‑quality development of public health. Aligning closely with the fair's science and innovation focus, our hospital carefully curated a dedicated exhibition area featuring heavy ion technology. Through physical models, video presentations, illustrated educational displays, and on‑site expert explanations, we provided a comprehensive, multi‑dimensional showcase of the heavy ion therapy system, its core technological advantages, clinical achievements, and future industrial development plans — vividly demonstrating the powerful role of this "great national instrument" in safeguarding life and health.

As the birthplace of China's independently developed heavy ion technology and a leading force in domestic ion radiotherapy — often referred to as the "Jinggangshan" of the field — our hospital is the only institution in the world operating two heavy ion therapy systems simultaneously. This has established a dual‑center integrated framework linking Wuwei and Lanzhou. Leveraging nine world‑first or China‑first heavy ion cancer treatment technologies — including precision heavy ion therapy under ventilator control, bladder‑capacity‑controlled treatment for bladder cancer, and single‑session therapy with surgically implanted spacers between organs and tumors — we have brought new hope to patients for whom conventional radiotherapy was ineffective. Thanks to its unique physical and biological advantages, heavy ion therapy is now indicated for more than 100 types of tumors. To date, the Wuwei and Lanzhou Heavy Ion Centers of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital have successfully treated over 3,000 patients from all provinces and municipalities across China, as well as from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and countries including Belgium, Australia, South Korea, Malaysia, Canada, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, New Zealand, Jordan, and Serbia. For many tumor types, our treatment outcomes have surpassed international benchmarks in the field.
