The latest findings from the "Clinical Cure Optimization Project" for hepatitis B, spearheaded by the Hepatology Center of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital under the guidance of renowned hepatologist Professor Zhang Hongfei, were unveiled at the 2026 Annual Meeting of the Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL).

Research Highlights:
APASL 2026 | Interim Data from the "Optimization Project": Combination therapy using PegIFNα-2b and NAs significantly reduced HBsAg levels in chronic hepatitis B patients with high baseline HBsAg, with over half of the participants transitioning into favorable candidates for clinical cure.

Center Overview
The Hepatology Center of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital is a comprehensive, single-disease specialty center integrating a full spectrum of technologies: general and minimally invasive surgery, interventional radiology, antiviral therapy, hepatectomy, gallbladder-preserving cholecystolithiasis removal, hepatitis B clinical cure protocols, artificial liver support systems, Yttrium-90 (Y-90) radioembolization, Iodine-125 seed implantation, targeted and immunotherapy, cellular immunotherapy, and stem cell transplantation. It has established an "Expert Consultation Platform for Complex and Severe Liver Diseases" featuring renowned domestic and international experts. With five specialized departments, three nursing stations, and one intensive care unit, the center boasts a complete, collaborative, and cutting-edge clinical layout.
The center leads multiple real-world studies and national beneficiary programs. It serves as the Gansu Provincial Diabetes-Liver Disease Co-Management Center (the first of its kind in the province), benefiting patients with complex liver diseases, metabolic disorders such as diabetes, and fatty liver disease.
