Advancing Radiotherapy Through Competition: Successful Conclusion of Stereotactic Radiotherapy Technique Competition

To further elevate the standards of stereotactic radiotherapy, foster an academic exchange platform, enhance the synergy among physicians, nurses, and technicians, and drive the high-quality development of precision oncology, Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital successfully concluded its first Stereotactic Radiotherapy Technique Competition of 2026 on the afternoon of April 29th. The event was held in Conference Room No. 3 of the Heavy Ion Main Building.

The competition was hosted by Vice President Zhang Yanshan and organized by the Hospital’s Quality Control Department, featuring a panel of senior experts from radiation oncology, internal medicine, and surgery. Enthusiastic participation was seen among radiotherapy physicians across the hospital, with medical staff from various departments attending to observe and learn. The event was meticulously organized and fast-paced, fostering a rigorous and vibrant atmosphere for academic exchange.

In the preliminary stage, strict case collection and screening were conducted. Contestants selected anonymized real-world clinical cases, focusing on challenging tumors, lesions in special sites, and typical cases of multidisciplinary treatment (MDT). They presented their findings via PPT, detailing aspects ranging from medical history analysis, diagnostic reasoning, and precise target delineation, to treatment planning, dosage control, efficacy evaluation, and follow-up management. This fully demonstrated the solid clinical foundation, meticulous thinking, and technical expertise of our radiotherapy team.

Following the presentations, mentors conducted in-depth analyses of each case, reviewing shortcomings and highlighting strengths. While affirming the contestants' clinical logic and advantages, they precisely identified weaknesses in the diagnosis and treatment process and offered professional, targeted suggestions for improvement. The event successfully achieved its original goal: using competition to drive learning, using evaluation to promote reform, and facilitating mutual learning for collective advancement.

The scoring system utilized the standard rule of removing the highest and lowest scores before calculating the average. Ultimately, Zhang Zhichao from the Department of Radiation Oncology (Division 2) claimed the first prize. He Nana from Division 1 of the Radiotherapy Center and Yu Rong from Division 3 received the second prize. Zhang Yaoling (Division 2), Chen Xia (Division 2), and Li Zhenglin (Division 1) were awarded the third prize.

Moving forward, the hospital will establish a normalized mechanism for academic exchange. We plan to hold quarterly events such as case competitions and seminars to continuously enrich our database of classic radiotherapy cases, providing robust support for teaching and experience sharing. Using these competitions as a catalyst, we aim to further standardize clinical workflows, hone the skills of our professional team, strengthen the foundation of discipline construction, and elevate our comprehensive capabilities in precision oncology. Our ultimate goal is to safeguard the health and lives of the people in our region.
