Academic Salon on Retroperitoneal Tumors Held at Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center

On March 29, the first Academic Salon on Retroperitoneal Tumor Surgery, hosted by the Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital, was held in Lanzhou.

The meeting was hosted and addressed by Su Anping, Vice President of the Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital. During the meeting, two important initiatives were announced: the official establishment of the Retroperitoneal Tumor Specialty Clinic at the Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital, and the establishment of the Famous Doctor Studio led by Professor Luo Chenghua, Chairman of the Retroperitoneal Tumor Professional Committee of the Chinese Medical Association. These initiatives mark a new phase in the hospital's disciplinary development in the field of retroperitoneal tumor diagnosis and treatment, enabling more precise and higher-quality medical services for patients, while achieving the localization of high-end medical resources and the daily availability of chief expert services.

During the academic lecture session, Professor Luo Chenghua from Peking University People's Hospital delivered a lecture titled "The History, Opportunities, and Challenges in the Development of Retroperitoneal Tumor Surgery in China," systematically reviewing the discipline's development, analyzing current opportunities and challenges, and charting a direction for future progress. Professor Chen Jun from Peking University People's Hospital presented on "The Evolution and Development of Surgical Strategies for Retroperitoneal Sarcoma," sharing insights on surgical technique iteration and optimization through clinical cases. Professor Jiang Lei from The First Hospital of Lanzhou University focused on "Surgical Treatment Strategies for Colorectal Cancer Liver Metastases," exploring individualized treatment approaches within a multidisciplinary framework.

Following the lectures, under the joint moderation of Professor Yang Hengteng from Lanzhou University Second Hospital, Professor Shu Xiaojun from The First Hospital of Lanzhou University, and Professor Da Mingxu from Gansu Provincial Hospital, attending experts engaged in lively discussions on the lecture topics. Professor Xu Ming from the 940th Hospital of the Joint Logistics Support Force, Professor Wang Ji from Gansu Provincial Second People's Hospital, Professor Liu Xingjie from Baiyin Second People's Hospital, and Professor Liu Xiaomin from Dingxi People's Hospital, among others, shared their insights based on clinical experience, creating a strong academic atmosphere.

The third session of academic sharing focused on clinical technological innovation and multimodal treatment applications. Professor Liu Haipeng from Lanzhou University Second Hospital shared "The Application of Disposable Ostomy Balloon in Low Anterior Resection," providing a new technical approach for sphincter-preserving surgery in low rectal cancer. Professor Qiao Hongmei from the Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital presented "Application of Carbon Ion Radiotherapy in Abdominal Tumors," detailing the advantages and clinical outcomes of heavy ion radiotherapy in abdominal tumor treatment, demonstrating the potential for synergy between the hospital's heavy ion therapy and surgical approaches.

During the expert discussion session, under the moderation of Professor Lu Jizhou from Gansu Provincial Third People's Hospital, Professor Zhou Chenggang from Lanzhou Second People's Hospital, and Professor Ma Changying from Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital, experts including Professor Fang Xingzhong from Lanzhou First People's Hospital, Professor Shan Biaofeng from Lanzhou Second People's Hospital, and Professor Wu Shengxiang from Lanzhou Third People's Hospital engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as multimodal treatment and promotion of technical standards, building consensus for the coordinated development of abdominal tumor diagnosis and treatment in the region.

As a specialized discipline at our hospital, the Retroperitoneal Tumor Surgery Department will focus on standardized diagnosis, individualized surgical treatment, multimodal comprehensive intervention, and full-course rehabilitation management for benign and malignant retroperitoneal tumors. Leveraging the hospital's advantages in heavy ion radiotherapy technology, it aims to establish an integrated diagnosis and treatment model combining "surgical intervention + precision radiotherapy + multidisciplinary collaboration." The establishment of the Famous Doctor Studio will enable deep collaboration with leading domestic expert teams, facilitating regular multidisciplinary consultations for complex cases, technical guidance, and talent development. This marks a new stage in the hospital's disciplinary development in the field of retroperitoneal tumor diagnosis and treatment, advancing toward greater specialization and precision. It effectively promotes the localization of high-end medical resources and the daily availability of chief expert services, providing higher quality and more efficient specialized diagnosis and treatment services for patients with retroperitoneal tumors in Longyuan and even the western region of China.
