Five Poles of Growth Inject Vitality: Wuwei's First Batch of Medical Equipment Approved for Market Launch

On May 13th, the Bladder Volume Measuring Instrument, developed by the Wuwei Heavy Ion Medical Engineering Transformation Center, was successfully registered with the Gansu Provincial Medical Products Administration. The first batch of equipment will now be arranged for mass production and market release. This achievement signifies a dual breakthrough for Wuwei in both medical technology and the medical equipment industry. It serves as a vivid realization of Wuwei City's development philosophy of "Twin Engines Traction, Five Poles of Growth," and marks a substantial industrial breakthrough for Wuwei in the fields of medical equipment manufacturing and the health industry.

The Wuwei Heavy Ion Medical Engineering Transformation Center is a collaborative project led by the Municipal Health Commission. It was established through investment promotion efforts, involving a partnership between the Wuwei Medical Science Academy Cancer Hospital and Wuwei Boruiling Medical Device Co., Ltd. The center is located in the Traditional Chinese Medicine Industry Incubation Park of the Wuwei Medical Science Academy Heavy Ion Center, covering an area of approximately 600 square meters. Its primary business focuses on the design, R&D, operation, sales, and import/export trade of medical equipment.

Starting in 2014, the Wuwei Medical Science Academy Cancer Hospital intensified its efforts in technology transformation, successively obtaining various scientific and technological funds. In 2014, it received 3.3 million yuan from a Gansu Provincial Major Special Project. In 2019, it secured a total of 31.38 million yuan from a Gansu Provincial Key R&D Program and the national "Enhancing Manufacturing Core Competitiveness Project." In 2022, it obtained 4 million yuan from the Gansu Provincial Central Government Guidance Fund for Local Science and Technology Development Project. Over the past decade, the hospital has accumulated nearly 50 million yuan in various scientific research and project funds. The implementation of these scientific and research projects has laid a solid foundation for the construction of the Medical Transformation Center.

In 2023, the formal establishment of the Wuwei Heavy Ion Medical Transformation Center within the heavy ion hospital campus marked the opening of a new chapter in the city's medical research translation.
The center's inception injected new vitality into the heavy ion industry, driving the hospital to achieve significant results in industrial innovation. It advanced various cutting-edge treatment technologies, and contributed to the creation of a National Drug Clinical Trial Institution and a National Medical Device Clinical Trial Institution. Dedicated research buildings were constructed, housing facilities such as a cell laboratory, an animal laboratory, a nuclide laboratory, and a comprehensive experimental center, forming institutions for both basic and clinical medical research. Building upon extensive clinical trials, an alpha-radiation pharmaceutical laboratory was established, and plans are underway for a cell therapy hospital and the Wuwei Biobank, providing strong momentum for progress in medical science and technology.

Products from the cooperative enterprise of the Wuwei Heavy Ion Medical Engineering Transformation Center have been exported on three separate occasions from the Wuwei Bonded Logistics Center to countries including the United Kingdom and the United States.
The successful registration of the Bladder Volume Measuring Instrument undoubtedly injects new vitality into Wuwei's pharmaceutical industry system. It enhances the overall strength of the "Heavy Ion + Medical and Health Care Industry Cluster" and significantly boosts the clinical transformation capability of the Wuwei Medical Science Academy Cancer Hospital.

Looking ahead, the Wuwei Heavy Ion Medical Engineering Transformation Center will focus on medical engineering transformation within the broader healthcare field. Through deep integration of "industry, academia, and research," it will continue to explore and develop more advanced medical device products that meet market demands. The center plans to introduce a proton/heavy ion radiotherapy chair, a phrenic pacemaker, a gastric cancer gene detection chip kit, and a series of tumor treatment products based on biological immune cells. It aims to achieve further breakthroughs in the fields of medical device R&D and biopharmaceuticals, contributing actively to the city's economic development.
