Multidisciplinary Collaboration Sharpens the "Chain of Life Rescue"

— Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital Conducts Emergency Drill for Medical Rescue in Public Health Incidents

On August 26, a tense and orderly "Emergency Drill for Medical Rescue in Public Health Incidents" kicked off in the emergency department of the Heavy Ion Hospital District of Wuwei Institute of Medical Sciences Cancer Hospital. The drill was led by the Medical Affairs Department, with participation from over 60 medical staff across 12 departments, including the Emergency Department, Operating Room, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Cardiology and Interventional Department, Anesthesiology, Critical Care Medicine, Imaging Department, Hospital Administration Office, Equipment Department, and Organization and Publicity Department. The aim was to test the rapid response and collaborative treatment capabilities of the hospital's integrated pre-hospital and in-hospital emergency system under practical standards.

The drill simulated a traffic accident at the Ronghua Group intersection, where three injured individuals sustained severe traumatic brain injury, left forearm fracture, and right ankle soft tissue contusion and laceration, respectively. Following the "120" dispatch command, the pre-hospital emergency team assembled within 3 minutes and rushed to the scene. Simultaneously, the in-hospital triage, trauma treatment, and surgical passage of the emergency department were activated. Specialists from multiple departments arrived at the resuscitation room within 10 minutes and put into  intense treatment efforts.

The entire drill process was tightly connected, covering a series of critical steps such as on-site triage and classification, advanced life support, rapid imaging assessment, and seamless integration of emergency surgery. From the initial assessment of the injured individuals' conditions to the implementation of emergency treatment measures, followed by necessary imaging examinations and timely arrangement of surgery, every step was strictly conducted according to standardized treatment protocols, ensuring the authenticity and effectiveness of the drill.

After the drill, Nie Peng, vice president of the hospital, stated, "This drill was not only a practical test of the medical staff's professional skills but also a comprehensive assessment of the emergency command system, resource allocation efficiency, and accuracy of information transmission." He emphasized that the hospital would take this drill as an important opportunity to continuously optimize the "green channel" mechanism, further improve the closed-loop management model of pre-hospital emergency care—in-hospital emergency care—specialized treatment, and ensure that in the face of real emergencies, the hospital can achieve "disciplined dispatch, timely response, effective treatment, appropriate measures, and reasonable diagnosis and treatment."

In the next step, Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital will organize various medical drills and specialized skill training in batches, continuously enhancing the medical staff's emergency response capabilities and professional competence. This will strengthen the solid defense for safeguarding the lives and health of the people in Wuwei and surrounding areas, providing more reliable and efficient medical guarantees.
