I. Materials Required Before Consultation for Heavy Ion Therapy
1. Identification and Basic Information
- Valid ID documents (ID card, medical insurance card, etc.).
2. Medical Diagnostic Materials
- Pathology report, genetic testing report (if available).
- Imaging reports (CT, MRI, ultrasound, PET-CT, etc.) and laboratory test reports (liver/kidney function, tumor markers, etc. – arranged chronologically).
- Medical history records (initial diagnosis date, disease progression timeline, comorbidities, drug allergies, etc.).
3. Treatment History Records
- Surgery (procedure name, date, postoperative pathology report, etc.).
- Radiotherapy/Chemotherapy (radiation site, dosage, treatment duration; chemotherapy drug names, cycles, efficacy, and side effects).
- Other treatments (targeted therapy, immunotherapy, traditional Chinese medicine, current medication list, etc.).
4. Personal Question List
Prepare questions based on the patient’s condition (e.g., eligibility, efficacy, treatment schedule, side effects). Doctors will provide professional answers during consultation.
Initial Consultation & Evaluation
After submitting imaging materials to our consultants, our team will forward them to the expert panel for preliminary evaluation. Doctors will conduct detailed imaging and pathological assessments to determine suitability for heavy ion therapy. Results will be communicated promptly to the patient.

II. Heavy Ion Treatment Process
1. Patient Immobilization Mold Preparation
Simulation positioning ensures precise placement during treatment. A custom mold is made based on positioning results.
2. Simulation & Target Delineation
After mold preparation, CT/MRI localization scans are performed. Images are transferred to the target delineation system, followed by physicist-led dose planning and verification.
3. Treatment Planning
The expert team designs a personalized plan using advanced imaging (CT/MRI/PET) to pinpoint tumor location/size. The plan undergoes repeated validation for dose, angle, and frequency.
4. Treatment Execution
A multidisciplinary team (radiation oncologists, physicists, technicians, nurses) conducts treatment. Pre-treatment repositioning ensures accuracy. Patients must remain still; respiratory training may be required.

Post-Treatment Follow-Up & Care
Patients undergo recovery and regular follow-ups to assess efficacy. The medical team provides guidance on managing side effects. Multiple courses may be needed, with intervals for recovery.

III. Heavy Ion Treatment Costs & Related Questions
1. How long is the treatment cycle/hospitalization period?
- Preparation: 7–10 days (mold fabrication, CT/MRI localization, target delineation, planning, verification, repositioning, expert review).
- Treatment: Daily sessions (2–5 minutes per session, 20–30 minutes total prep). Total hospitalization: ~40 days.
Treatment Types:
- Curative radiotherapy
- Adjuvant radiotherapy
- Palliative radiotherapy
2. What is the cost? Is it covered by insurance?
- Cost structure:First session: ¥49,500Subsequent sessions: ¥16,500 eachMaximum per course: ¥150,000Additional sites: Only the first-session fee applies per site.
- Insurance: Covered by major insurers’ heavy ion-specific policies. The center is advocating for broader reimbursement channels.

IV. Patient Guidelines During Treatment
- Maintain a balanced diet and stable weight (significant fluctuations affect body contours).
- For certain tumors, adhere to bladder-filling protocols or breathing exercises.
- Monitor skin markers (lines/dots) for integrity daily.
