On November 3, a delegation led by Academician Yu Jinming—Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), President of Shandong Cancer Hospital, and preeminent radiation oncologist—visited Wuwei Heavy Ion Center to advance precision radiotherapy and improve cancer care standards.
The delegation reviewed an introductory video, toured the facility's infrastructure, and examined its heavy ion accelerator system. Academician Yu praised Wuwei Medical Science Academy's state-of-the-art treatment environment, cutting-edge equipment, and strategic development plans, while offering actionable recommendations for future growth.
During a seminar titled "Strategies for Cultivating Outstanding Department Directors", Academician Yu shared Shandong Cancer Hospital's leadership development model. His lecture, blending theoretical depth with practical insights, received enthusiastic applause from attendees.
On October 13, 2023, Shandong Cancer Hospital completed the bidding process for heavy ion therapy equipment, marking the official commencement of its heavy ion cancer treatment facility. This milestone signifies that heavy ion therapy has emerged as a cutting-edge modality in precision oncology. Under the leadership of Academician Yu Jinming, China's heavy ion therapy technology is poised to enter a phase of high-quality, rapid development, positioning the nation as a global leader in particle-based precision radiotherapy.
Gansu Wuwei Academy of Medical and Science Cancer Hospital proudly operates China's first heavy ion treatment system. The strategic collaboration between these two institutions—bridging eastern and western China—will accelerate advancements in heavy ion precision cancer therapy, ultimately delivering safer and more effective treatment options for patients nationwide.
Wuwei Academy of Medical and Science Cancer Hospital Heavy Ion Center is China's first clinical application center for domestically developed heavy ion therapy systems. Since its official launch on March 26, 2020, the center has successfully treated 986 patients with over 50 cancer types, including: Lung cancer, Pancreatic cancer, Liver cancer, Gliomas. Patients have come from all 31 Chinese provinces/municipalities (including Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan) as well as overseas regions such as Belgium, reflecting its growing international recognition.
Wuwei Heavy Ion Center has pioneered China's first "Oncology Rehabilitation Town" through years of development, establishing a comprehensive, life-cycle health management system that integrates:Multimodal cancer therapy，Medical nutrition intervention，Psychosomatic wellness programs，TCM syndrome differentiation therapy，Rehabilitation physiotherapy，Cellular immunotherapy，Horticultural therapy，Cultural therapy.
