On July 3, Professor Fan Ruitai from the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, Henan Province, arrived at the Wuwei Heavy Ion Center of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital to initiate a regular working schedule, injecting new and robust momentum into the development of the Wuwei Heavy Ion Center in the field of tumor treatment.

Professor Fan Ruitai has achieved remarkable success in the field of tumor radiotherapy, boasting extensive clinical experience and profound academic expertise. Alongside Professor Ma Changying and other experts, he regularly participates in the treatment of heavy ion therapy patients, customizing scientific treatment plans for complex cases. Their involvement has propelled the hospital to new heights in the field of tumor radiotherapy.

The Wuwei Heavy Ion Center of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital is the birthplace of domestically produced heavy ion therapy and is hailed as the "Jinggangshan" of ion radiotherapy in the industry. The first domestically developed heavy ion device was officially put into clinical use on March 26, 2020, while the second system commenced clinical operations on November 15, 2024, under the management of Wuwei Cancer Hospital. To date, over 2,000 patients have been treated here, hailing from every province and city across China, as well as from countries such as Australia, Belgium, South Korea, and Malaysia, who sought treatment due to its reputation. The center has delivered remarkable therapeutic outcomes, accumulating extensive experience in the clinical application of heavy ion therapy. Through continuous exploration and innovation, it has established a comprehensive tumor treatment system.

Professor Fan Ruitai's regular work arrangement perfectly aligns with the long-term talent development strategy upheld by Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital. For years, the hospital has consistently engaged renowned experts including Professor Tatsuaki Kanai from Gunma University School of Medicine in Japan, former director of the National Institute of Radiological Sciences Professor  Tsujii hirohiko, former directors of the Munich Proton Therapy Center RPTC Professors Jörg Hauffe and Olga from Germany, former chairman of the Taiwan Radiation Oncology Society Professor Yee-Min Jen, distinguished radiation physicist Professor Jia-Ming Wu from Taiwan Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, and the team led by Professor Junjie Wang, chairman of the Radiation Oncology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association. Recently, the hospital has further recruited Professor Yasuo Yoshioka from the Department of Radiation Oncology at the National Cancer Center Japan, Professor György Kovács, director of the Brachytherapy Center at the University of Lübeck and program director at Sacred Heart University Italy, and Professor Donghe Wu from TMU Proton Center at Taipei Medical University to work on a long-term basis. The addition of these world-class experts has established a comprehensive expert think tank covering all aspects of heavy ion therapy, integrating both Eastern and Western wisdom, and significantly strengthening the hospital's talent pool.
