[International Exchange] Chinese, British, and Canadian Medical Physicists Gather at Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center to Explore Cutting-Edge Heavy Ion Therapy Technologies
On June 13, the Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center hosted a high-level international academic exchange. Professor Zhang Yibao's team from Peking University Cancer Hospital, along with three top medical physicists from the UK and Canada, visited our center for in-depth discussions with Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center experts. This academic event, bringing together scholars from China, the UK, and Canada, was not only a technical exchange but also a significant milestone in China's heavy ion radiotherapy technology stepping onto the global stage.

Hosted by Professor Jia-Ming Wu, the symposium focused on particle radiotherapy, systematically presenting the latest research advancements and key technical aspects such as physical quality control.

On June 16-17, British physicist Ana-Cristina Ghica and two Peking University graduate students conducted a two-day immersive exchange in our Radiation Physics Department. They observed core technical processes, including heavy ion equipment quality control, treatment planning, and delivery. Our team demonstrated Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center’s expertise through detailed explanations and hands-on sessions, sharing valuable technical insights with international peers and young scholars. This exchange not only highlighted the center’s commitment to global collaboration but also provided a practical platform for nurturing the next generation of medical physicists.

This exchange broadened technical perspectives and forged lasting international friendships, laying a solid foundation for future transnational research collaborations. As a benchmark for heavy ion therapy technology in China, the Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center upholds an open and sharing philosophy, actively promoting global academic cooperation. This event not only showcased China’s technological prowess in heavy ion therapy but also contributed "Chinese wisdom" to the global fight against cancer.
