Wuwei and Lanzhou Heavy Ion Centers are specialized carbon-ion clinical treatment institutions under the Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital, a top-tier Class III Grade A hospital. It is the only hospital in the world operating two heavy ion therapy systems and the first to utilize China's domestically developed heavy ion treatment system. Wuwei Heavy Ion Center officially commenced patient treatment on March 26, 2020. To date, it has successfully treated 1,820 patients, covering over 40 conditions including lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, liver cancer, and glioblastoma, all with excellent clinical outcomes. Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center began operations on November 15, 2024. Currently, patients from across China (including Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan) and countries such as Belgium, South Korea, and Australia routinely seek treatment at these centers.

The Center has appointed Professor Wang Junjie, Chairman of the Radiation Oncology Committee of the Chinese Medical Association, as the Dean of the Lanzhou campus. It has established 50 renowned national expert workstations, including those of Professor Shen Wenjiang, Lifetime Honorary Professor of the Department of Radiation Oncology at Peking University Health Science Center, and Professor Xu Bo, Standing Committee Member of the Tumor Radiotherapy Branch of the Chinese Medical Association. Additionally, the Center has recruited over 80 leading domestic and international experts for long-term residency, including Professor Yee-Min Jen, former Chairman of the Taiwan Radiation Oncology Society, and Professor Jia-Ming Wu, a distinguished Taiwanese radiation therapy physicist.

The center is also equipped with large-scale medical devices including a Discovery710 PET-CT, Siemens MAGNETOM Skyra 3.0T ultra-high-speed premium radiotherapy positioning MRI, Siemens 64-slice simulation CT, Varian VitalBeam linear accelerator, 3.0T wide-bore radiotherapy positioning MRI, and a 256-slice high-end diagnostic CT system.

The center has published several authoritative works including Standard Operating Procedures for Carbon Ion Radiotherapy, Radiation Safety Management and Equipment Operation Guidelines for Carbon Ion Therapy, and the Precision Radiotherapy in Oncology: Carbon Ion Therapy Series (comprising Clinical Volume, Physics Volume, and Technical Volume), as well as Comprehensive Perspectives on Carbon Ion Therapy for Cancer. It has also compiled standardized operating procedures (SOPs) covering clinical practice, technical operations, physics protocols, and patient follow-up for heavy ion therapy systems. Furthermore, the center contributed to formulating the Quality Control Testing Standards for Medical Proton/Heavy Ion Radiotherapy Equipment issued by China's National Health Commission.

The center has established the world's first oncology wellness town, implementing a comprehensive, whole-life-cycle health management system featuring integrated cancer therapies, heavy ion therapy, photon therapy, mind-body management, traditional Chinese medicine physiotherapy, rehabilitation therapy, biological immune cell therapy, pastoral therapy, and cultural therapy—providing high-quality diagnosis and treatment for cancer patients.
