Technical Collaboration Empowers Hospital Development: East and West Unite for a Shared Future
--A delegation led by Director Hu Jiyi from Shanghai Proton and Heavy Ion Hospital visited Wuwei Heavy Ion Center for professional exchange and collaborative learning
Recently, a delegation led by Director Hu Jiyi from Shanghai Proton and Heavy Ion Hospital visited Wuwei Heavy Ion Center, conducting an in-depth and productive exchange and learning session. The initiative aimed to share experiences in heavy ion therapy, explore new technological advancements, and optimize measures related to treatment techniques and patient management.

Director Hu Jiyi and the delegation conducted a detailed review of the heavy ion center's environment, equipment, and facilities. Following the visit, Director Hu highly commended the clinical environment, advanced infrastructure, and future development plans of Gansu Wuwei Academy of Medical Sciences Cancer Hospital. Additionally, he provided valuable insights and recommendations for further enhancements.

Subsequently, Director Hu Jiyi and the delegation delivered an insightful lecture titled "Dose Verification for Heavy Ion Therapy, Trial Application of Raystation, and Posture Immobilization Techniques for Various Indications in Shanghai Heavy Ion Patients" in the conference room on the second floor of the Wuwei Heavy Ion Center. They shared clinical experiences from the Shanghai Proton and Heavy Ion Hospital, particularly emphasizing key insights into heavy ion dose verification and the practical application of Raystation software. Director Hu elaborated on the critical role of dose verification in ensuring treatment accuracy and safety, while highlighting how Raystation enhances precision in radiotherapy planning by optimizing beam configuration and dose distribution. Additionally, he introduced posture immobilization methods tailored to different cancer types (e.g., lung, liver, and brain tumors), which are vital for maintaining both treatment accuracy and patient comfort during prolonged therapy sessions. This seminar significantly deepened participants' understanding of heavy ion therapy and provided actionable references for improving clinical workflows at the Wuwei Center. Attendees expressed their commitment to integrating these advanced techniques into daily practice, aiming to elevate treatment quality and patient outcomes.

The Shanghai Proton and Heavy Ion Hospital is a modern medical institution specializing in internationally advanced tumor radiotherapy technologies—proton and heavy ion therapy as its primary treatment modalities.
Gansu Wuwei Academy of Medical Science Cancer Hospital is the first clinical application site of China's domestically developed heavy ion therapy system. Through east-west collaboration(e.g., Shanghai Proton Heavy Ion Center and Wuwei Center), this partnership will drive advancements in proton and heavy ion precision radiotherapy, offering patients more effective and safer treatment options.

The Heavy Ion Center of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital is the first clinical application base for China's domestically developed heavy ion therapy system. Officially commencing clinical operations on March 26, 2020, it has since treated 1,145 patients with over 50 cancer types, including lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, liver cancer, and brain gliomas. Patients originate from all provinces/municipalities in mainland China (e.g., Beijing, Shanghai) as well as Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau, and overseas countries like Belgium.

This research initiative has further strengthened the exchange and collaboration between Shanghai Proton and Heavy Ion Hospital and Wuwei Heavy Ion Center. Both parties expressed their commitment to maintaining close ties and jointly advancing the development of heavy ion therapy technology, aiming to bring hope and recovery to more patients.
