On April 27, 2024, the Symposium on "Holistic and Grounded" Approach: China's Integrated Heavy Ion Therapy and TCM for Cancer Treatment was Grandly Held in Singapore.

The symposium was co-chaired by Mr. Chen Zhengjian, Programme Director of Applied Gerontology at Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), and Dr. Lyu Liru, International Affairs Officer and Patent Examiner in Search & Analysis at the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS), who also serves as a lecturer at SUSS School of Intellectual Property. Director Song Jian, Associate Professor Cao Jingyu, and Deputy Chief Physician Qi Li from Pei Zhengxue TCM Research Institute delivered keynote speeches, conducted a book launch ceremony, and participated in signing of three cross-border collaborative agreements during the academic sessions. The event attracted representatives from over 50 medical institutions and organizations across China, including Beijing and Guangzhou, alongside distinguished attendees from Singapore's healthcare sector, corporate representatives, and community leaders.

During the academic lecture, President Ye Yancheng of Wuwei Cancer Hospital, Gansu Wuwei Academy of Medical Sciences, championed Gansu Province and Wuwei City. He particularly highlighted Wuwei's tripartite cultural identity as an "ancient, mystical, and vibrant" region – the excavation site of China's iconic tourism symbol, the  Bronze Galloping Horse, and the birthplace of Chinese viticulture. Emphasizing Wuwei's contemporary transformation, President Ye outlined its rapid development through the "Dual-Engine Propulsion, Five-Pole Synergy" strategy (Chinese: 两擎牵引，五极迸发). Notably, the Wuwei Heavy Ion Center has evolved into an international gateway, bridging global visitors to Wuwei's technological advancements and cultural heritage.

Under the title "Clinical Application and Practice of China's Carbon Ion Therapy System", he delivered a comprehensive report on the development and clinical implementation progress of China's first domestic heavy ion therapy system. The symposium premiered featured documentary footage of Prof. Pei Zhengxue, a Nationally Renowned TCM Master and integrative medicine expert. Associate Professor Cao Jingyu and Deputy Chief Physician Qi Li delivered in-depth analyses on the synergistic integration of TCM with heavy ion therapy in oncology, demonstrating promising clinical prospects through interdisciplinary treatment protocols. Mr. Chen Zhengjian further shared collaborative prospects between Singapore and Gansu Province across three strategic domains: heavy ion therapy advancement, TCM global promotion, and innovative mental health management systems.

The "Holistic and Grounded" conceptual framework, characterizing Gansu Province's dual strengths in healthcare, defines "Reaching Heaven" (顶天) as its pioneering heavy ion cancer therapy technology and "Grounding Earth" (立地) as its abundant Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) resources. This strategic vision was formally articulated by Prof. Chen Zhu, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and renowned medical scientist, during his 2021 inspection tour of Gansu's medical innovation ecosystem.

Heavy ion therapy represents one of the most technologically advanced oncology treatment modalities globally in the 21st century. China stands among the four nations worldwide capable of independently developing and manufacturing heavy ion therapy systems. Since the inaugural Chinese-developed heavy ion treatment system commenced clinical operations at the Wuwei Heavy Ion Center on March 26, 2020, it has successfully administered therapy to over 1,200 patients from 23 countries. Post-treatment evaluations demonstrate significant therapeutic efficacy with favorable tolerance profiles, currently covering more than 50 cancer types including lung carcinoma, hepatocellular carcinoma, pancreatic adenocarcinoma, and glioblastoma multiforme.

Concurrently with the academic symposium, collaborating institutions from China and Singapore formalized a strategic partnership through agreement signings. Gansu Wuwei Academy of Medical Sciences Cancer Hospital and Singapore's Baisheng Health Management Center established a bilateral cooperation framework, committing to synergize health management innovation while jointly advancing the dissemination of integrated heavy ion therapy with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) oncology protocols across Southeast Asia and adjacent regions.
