Professor Gao Daiquan from Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University Visits Our Hospital for Neurological Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Guidance

In golden October, under clear skies, the "Golden October National Renowned Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease Expert Large‑Scale Diagnostic and Treatment Campaign" at Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital is proceeding in an orderly manner. Early in the morning on October 11, Professor Gao Daiquan, Deputy Director of the Department of Neurology at Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University and a Doctor of Neurology, visited our hospital, traveling thousands of miles to Wuwei to bring high‑quality diagnostic and treatment services to patients with neurological diseases in the region.

Professor Gao Daiquan comes from Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University — a "national team" for neurological disease diagnosis and treatment in China. As a Doctor of Neurology, he has long been deeply engaged in the fields of neurocritical care and cerebrovascular disease, accumulating extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of complex cerebrovascular diseases, severe intracranial infections, and status epilepticus. He also holds academic positions including Member of the Neurological Disease Nutrition Support Group of the Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition Branch of the Chinese Medical Association and Member of the Neurocritical Care Professional Committee of the Beijing Neurological Society. He is a core figure in the field of neurocritical care, combining clinical strength with academic influence.

At eight in the morning, Professor Gao Daiquan arrived at our hospital's Neuromedicine Center and went directly to the wards for rounds. After verifying patients' imaging data, laboratory indicators, and medication plans with the attending physicians, he led the team into the wards. At the bedside of a patient with suspected Alzheimer's disease, Professor Gao carefully inquired about the patient's cognitive changes, decline in activities of daily living, and family history. The attending physician reported the degree of brain atrophy shown on cranial MRI, changes in hippocampal volume, and neuropsychological scale results. Professor Gao leaned in to personally conduct cognitive function screening for the patient, focusing on recent memory, orientation, and executive function. He then analyzed the correlation between brain atrophy regions and cognitive impairment in conjunction with imaging, and instructed the attending physician to pay attention to differentiation from frontotemporal dementia and Lewy body dementia, recommending cerebrospinal fluid biomarker testing when necessary. He also reminded family members that early identification and early intervention are crucial for slowing disease progression.

After the ward rounds, Professor Gao Daiquan proceeded to the outpatient clinic. Outside the consultation room, patients with advance appointments were already waiting in an orderly manner. He received each patient one by one, inquiring in detail about their medical history, reviewing imaging data, conducting careful physical examinations, and providing individualized diagnostic and treatment recommendations based on different conditions. For multiple patients with neurological‑related diseases, Professor Gao systematically ruled out possible factors from a neurological perspective based on their symptom characteristics and imaging findings, providing each patient with a clear diagnostic direction and recommendations for further examinations.

Professor Gao's visit to Wuwei is an important component of the "Golden October National Renowned Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease Expert Large‑Scale Diagnostic and Treatment Campaign" at Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital. This campaign brings together renowned experts from Beijing, Shanghai, Jiangsu‑Zhejiang, the Central Plains, and the Shaanxi region, bringing top‑tier medical resources to the doorsteps of Wuwei residents and tailoring diversified, individualized, high‑quality diagnostic and treatment plans for each patient. At the same time, the hospital is actively exploring the clinical application of domestically produced heavy ion technology in the fields of Alzheimer's disease, cerebrovascular malformations, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, and other complex conditions, building a differentiated diagnostic and treatment system of "conventional care + heavy ion specialty treatment" — establishing a solid health defense for the people of the region.
