— The Second Medical‑Nursing Hand‑in‑Hand Emergency Competence Competition of Our Operating Room Successfully Concludes

On the afternoon of September 21, the Second "Skills Fueling Station" Emergency Competence Competition of the Operating Room at Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital was successfully conducted. The competition aimed to strengthen emergency response thinking across all staff, standardize rescue procedures for intraoperative emergencies, enhance physician‑anesthesiologist‑nurse tripartite collaboration, and effectively ensure perioperative quality and safety.
The competition received strong support from hospital leadership and all surgical departments, as well as an enthusiastic response from all medical and nursing staff. The competition adopted a closed‑book, real‑scene simulation format. The order of team appearances and the rescue assessment scenarios were all determined by drawing lots before the competition, maximizing the authenticity of clinical emergency rescue situations.

Head Nurse Chu Xiaoxia chaired the event
Before the competition, Ms. Sun Yanfeng from the Department of Abdominal Surgery delivered a specialized lecture on whole‑process perioperative quality control. Ms. Xu Hong from the Operating Room explained electrosurgical safety knowledge and key points for preventing coupling‑induced injury risks based on real clinical cases. All participants completed a theoretical assessment on emergency knowledge, reinforcing their foundations through testing.

The real‑scene simulation skills competition followed, with teams taking the stage in sequence. As simulated emergencies suddenly unfolded, team members quickly entered a state of实战 (combat readiness), rapidly identifying the patient's condition, implementing role assignments, initiating rescue interventions, repeating and verifying medical orders, simulating family communication, standardizing the documentation of rescue records, and completing post‑event debriefing. Physicians, anesthesiologists, and nurses worked in close coordination, translating accumulated specialty skills into split‑second actions on the competition floor. The judging panel was present throughout, scoring each item against the assessment criteria and conducting objective and fair evaluations.

At the conclusion of the event, Vice President Nie Peng extended warm congratulations on the successful holding of the competition and fully affirmed the practical performance of all participating teams. He noted that the competition was well‑organized and closely aligned with real‑world practice, effectively testing the scientific validity and operability of the operating room's emergency response plans, and tempering the rapid response and collaborative management capabilities of the physician‑anesthesiologist‑nurse triad under sudden emergencies.
The calm and composed rescues in the operating room are never innate — they are the professional confidence accumulated through countless hours of learning, drilling, and debriefing. Going forward, our operating room will continue to regularly conduct practice‑oriented skills training, continuously strengthen multidisciplinary emergency collaboration among physicians, anesthesiologists, and nurses, and forge a rapid‑response, standardized‑management emergency team dedicated to safeguarding the life and safety of every surgical patient.
