Healthy China • Primary Care Liver Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Capability Enhancement Project-Visit to Gulang County People's Hospital

The event Experts on the Ground–Volunteer Service Initiative: Learn from Lei Feng Famous Doctors Delivering Health Volunteer Service Model Project & Healthy China • Primary Care Liver Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Capability Enhancement Project–Gulang Chapter was successfully held on March 22, 2025, at Gulang County People's Hospital. The opening ceremony was attended by Duo Haiyun, Director of the Gulang County Health Bureau; Zhang Rongshan, Party Secretary of Gulang County People's Hospital; Tao Runlong, President of Gulang County People's Hospital; and Zhang Wenhua, Honorary President, Chief Expert, and Director of the Hepatobiliary Center at Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital. Experts from the Hepatobiliary, Cardiovascular, Gastroenterology, Respiratory, and Endocrinology Departments of Wuwei Cancer Hospital conducted free medical consultations and delivered specialized lectures, with participation from medical staff of Gulang County People's Hospital, community health centers, and township hospitals.

The Hepatobiliary Center of Wuwei Medical Research Institute, designated as a National Demonstration Base for Hepatobiliary Disease Prevention and Treatment Technologies, comprehensively conducts clinical and research work across the entire spectrum of hepatobiliary care. Its capabilities span: liver protection therapies, antiviral treatments, artificial liver support systems, surgical interventions, minimally invasive procedures, radioiodine seed implantation, targeted immunotherapy, cellular immunotherapy, and stem cell transplantation. As one of China's few single-disease specialized centers achieving integrated diagnosis-treatment and whole-process management of hepatobiliary diseases, the center leads multiple real-world research projects and national public health initiatives. It has established: A multidisciplinary consultation platform collaborating with globally renowned experts for complex hepatobiliary cases; Gansu Province's first Integrated Diabetes-Liver Disease Co-Management Center, extending advanced care to patients with severe liver diseases, metabolic liver disorders (e.g., diabetes, fatty liver disease), and rare hepatological conditions.

The Hepatobiliary Center of Wuwei Cancer Hospital is now a national demonstration base for the prevention and treatment technology of hepatobiliary diseases. It can comprehensively carry out clinical and scientific research work in the field of hepatobiliary diseases, such as liver protection, antiviral therapy, artificial liver support, surgical operations, interventional therapy, minimally invasive procedures, iodine seed implantation, targeted immunotherapy, cellular immunotherapy, and stem cell transplantation. At present, it is one of the few single-disease centers in China that can perfectly achieve comprehensive diagnosis, treatment and whole-process management of hepatobiliary diseases. The center undertakes multiple real-world research projects and several national projects benefiting the people. It has established a consultation platform for well-known experts in difficult and critical liver diseases at home and abroad. At the same time, it has also built the first diabetes-liver disease co-management center in Gansu Province, benefiting more patients with hepatobiliary diseases, especially those with difficult and critical hepatobiliary diseases, as well as patients with liver-related metabolic diseases such as diabetes and fatty liver.
