To further promote the high-quality development of tumor prevention and treatment in Gansu Province, facilitate the downward transfer of high-level medical technology resources, and enhance grassroots tumor diagnosis and treatment capabilities, the "Mother River · Tumor Prevention and Treatment Public Welfare Project - Expert Grassroots Tour Activity," hosted by the Bethune Charitable Foundation and organized by Lanzhou Heavy Ion Hospital and Dingxi People's Hospital, was successfully held at Dingxi People's Hospital on September 19.
The event was attended by Wang Junjie, Director of the Radiotherapy Oncology Committee of the Chinese Medical Association, Chairman of the Radiotherapy Special Committee of the Bethune Charitable Foundation, Director of the Radiotherapy Department of Peking University Third Hospital, and President of Lanzhou Heavy Ion Hospital; Yin Le, Director of the Project Development Department of the Bethune Charitable Foundation; Professors Jiang Yuliang, Qu Ang, and Li Xuemin from Peking University Third Hospital; and medical colleagues from Lanzhou Heavy Ion Hospital, including Vice President Qi Ying, Professors Zhao Fengju, Pan Ming, and Zhang Yingdong.

The event included free clinics, academic exchanges, teaching ward rounds, and a signing and unveiling ceremony. National-level experts provided "face-to-face" diagnosis and treatment and "hands-on" teaching, allowing local residents to enjoy high-quality medical services at their doorstep. This effectively improved grassroots diagnosis and treatment levels and met the medical needs of patients.

The symposium featured speeches by Zhou Jieshang, President of Dingxi People's Hospital, and Professor Wang Junjie of Lanzhou Heavy Ion Hospital. The expert team provided valuable suggestions on key areas such as the development of new technologies and talent training, based on the hospital's development needs. They also engaged in in-depth discussions with hospital leaders on the future development plan of the radiotherapy department and provided professional and detailed answers to questions raised by the hospital.

Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center
Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital is a state-owned public Class III Grade A cancer specialty hospital. Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center is the second clinical application center for heavy ion therapy with independent intellectual property rights in China, operated by Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital. The second Chinese heavy ion tumor treatment system was put into clinical operation at Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center on November 15, 2024. To date, the center has completed photon and heavy ion treatment for over 300 patients, covering diseases such as lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, liver cancer, and brain glioma.
Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center has established an elite talent system, featuring expert workstations led by 50 industry-leading authorities, including Shen Wenjiang, Lifetime Honorary Professor of the Department of Radiotherapy Oncology at Peking University Health Science Center, and Professor Xu Bo, Standing Committee Member of the Radiotherapy Oncology Committee of the Chinese Medical Association. Professor Wang Junjie, Chairman of the Radiotherapy Oncology Committee of the Chinese Medical Association, serves as the president, providing strong technical support for heavy ion therapy.
Additionally, the hospital is equipped with a series of cutting-edge medical devices, including the Varian VitalBeam medical linear accelerator, Elekta Infinity four-dimensional image-guided linear accelerator, 3.0T simulation positioning MRI, GE 256-slice high-end CT, and Varian-192Ir imported afterloader. These hardware facilities lay a solid foundation for heavy ion therapy, ensuring efficiency and precision in the treatment process.
The hospital aims to build a comprehensive, full-life-cycle tumor treatment system. It has established departments such as Radiotherapy Oncology, Medical Oncology/Hematology, Surgical Oncology, Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Oncology Rehabilitation, Critical Care Medicine, Digestive Endoscopy Center, Imaging Department, Laboratory Department, Ultrasound Department, Blood Bank, and Hematology Center Laboratory. The hospital provides comprehensive treatments including photon radiotherapy, chemotherapy, heavy ion therapy, internal medicine, and surgery, as well as services such as imaging, medical testing, ultrasound, and bone marrow cell morphology examination.
