In active response to the national call for promoting the allocation of high-quality medical resources to grassroots levels and improving local cancer prevention and treatment capabilities, and to further advance the high-quality development of cancer control in Gansu Province, the "Mother River • Cancer Prevention Public Welfare Project – Experts Grassroots Tour (Baiyin Station)" was successfully held at our hospital on May 30. Hosted by the Bethune Charitable Foundation, the event brought together renowned cancer prevention and treatment experts from across the province and beyond. Through academic lectures, large-scale free medical consultations, teaching ward rounds, and on-site exchanges, the experts shared cutting-edge medical technologies and concepts with patients and healthcare professionals in Baiyin, receiving widespread acclaim.

In her speech at the event, Hu Shuye, Member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director of the Baiyin District Health Bureau, pointed out that the "Mother River · Cancer Prevention and Treatment Public Welfare Project - Expert Outreach to Grassroots Activity" holds great significance. It is not only about the transfer of technology and experience but also a powerful boost to Baiyin's healthcare system. The event promotes exchanges and cooperation among medical institutions at all levels, stimulates the enthusiasm of healthcare professionals for learning, and benefits more patients. We should take this opportunity to strengthen the capacity-building of grassroots medical institutions. We need to increase investment to improve hardware facilities, enhance talent cultivation, and refine the cancer prevention and treatment network as well as the hierarchical medical system. Starting anew with this event, we aim to provide high-quality medical services to the public. Professor Wang Junjie introduced the original intention behind launching the "Mother River" project. The name is inspired by the song "Father's Prairie, Mother's River," symbolizing the love of nomads for their homeland and their longing for their parents. Today, leading an expert team in the field of oncology to Baiyin is not only a practice to promote the downward flow of high-quality medical resources but also aims to strengthen the training of radiotherapy talents and the development of specialized departments in grassroots hospitals. The fundamental goal of this project is to enhance the radiotherapy capabilities and overall cancer prevention and treatment abilities of grassroots hospitals, ultimately establishing a regional radiotherapy center.
Academic Exchange
The academic lecture session then commenced. Professor Wang Junjie, Director of the Lanzhou Campus of Wuwei Cancer Hospital in Gansu Province and Director of the Oncology Radiotherapy Department at Peking University Third Hospital, along with Professor Jiang Weijuan, Professor Wang Huiqin from Lanzhou Maternal and Child Health Hospital, Professor Zhao Fengju and Professor Chen Yu from Lanzhou Heavy Ion Hospital, and Professor Jiang Yuliang from Peking University International Hospital, delivered keynote speeches on topics including emergency radiotherapy, HPV-related treatment, cervical cancer radiotherapy and comprehensive therapy, interstitial brachytherapy for malignant tumors, and case sharing of heavy ion treatment. The experts provided in-depth yet accessible explanations on hot topics such as standardized cancer diagnosis and treatment and the latest therapeutic technologies, supplemented by practical case analyses. The content was rich and practical. During the lectures, attendees actively asked questions and engaged in interactive discussions with the experts, creating a lively and enthusiastic atmosphere.

Professor Wang Junjie led an expert team to conduct teaching rounds in relevant departments. By reviewing patients' medical histories and relevant examination reports, they conducted detailed analyses of complex cases involving refractory cancer patients and provided professional guidance on subsequent treatment plans.

After the event, an exchange symposium was held between our hospital's leadership and the expert team, followed by the Baiyin City Oncology Professional Quality Control Center Conference.
