"Mother River: Cancer Prevention and Control Charity Program—Expert Outreach Initiative (Gannan Station)" Successfully Held

On March 21, 2025, the "Mother River: Cancer Prevention and Control Charity Program—Expert Outreach Initiative (Gannan Station)", hosted by the Bethune Public Welfare Foundation and co-organized by Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital Lanzhou Branch and Hezuo People’s Hospital, was successfully conducted at Hezuo People’s Hospital. The event attracted numerous leading domestic radiotherapy experts and public welfare advocates. Distinguished participants included: Prof. Wang Junjie, Chairman of the Radiotherapy and Oncology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, Director of the Radiotherapy and Oncology Committee of the Bethune Public Welfare Foundation, and President of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital Lanzhou Branch. Ms. Zhao Ying, Vice Mayor of Hezuo City. Dr. Li Sha, Chief Expert of a Top-Tier Tertiary Hospital. Ms. Ma Juanwen, Vice President of Lanzhou Maternal and Child Health Hospital. Dr. Wang Huiqin, Deputy Chief Physician of Lanzhou Maternal and Child Health Hospital. Dr. Du Laning, Director of the Oncology Radiotherapy Department at the First Hospital of Lanzhou University. Mr. Qi Ying, Vice President of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital Lanzhou Branch. Mr. Li Xiaojun, Vice President of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital Lanzhou Branch. Dr. Zhao Fengju, Director of the Radiotherapy Department II at Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital Lanzhou Branch.

The academic conference brought together experts to discuss cutting-edge concepts and clinical innovations in cancer prevention and treatment, contributing wisdom and strength to advance the field.

The "Mother River: Cancer Prevention and Control Charity Program" was spearheaded by Prof. Wang Junjie, inspired by the evocative song "The Father’s Grassland and the Mother’s River". Leveraging the comprehensive medical, educational, and research systems of academic medical centers, the project integrates high-quality resources to provide primary care facilities with technical guidance, professional training, and expert consultations. Its core mission is to enhance radiotherapy capabilities in county-level hospitals while aligning with national "two cancer" (breast and cervical cancer) screening programs to alleviate poverty caused by illness, offering hope and support to patients and families.

Experts engaged in in-depth discussions on standardized cancer diagnosis and treatment, complex case management, and the latest research findings, advanced radiotherapy techniques, and personalized therapies. By pooling their expertise, they generated innovative ideas to deliver safer, more effective treatment plans and safeguard patient health.

Following the sessions, Prof. Wang Junjie conducted an on-site visit to the Oncology Department of Gannan Prefecture People’s Hospital, including ward rounds and a free clinic. Patients waited in an orderly queue, and experts patiently listened to their concerns, reviewed medical records, and provided tailored diagnostic and treatment recommendations.

The successful convening of the Gannan Station academic event has amplified the "Mother River" initiative’s impact, ensuring its compassionate spirit flows continuously. Collaborative efforts are advancing the "Healthy China" vision, striving tirelessly toward the goal of universal health coverage.
