2026 New Technologies and Advances in Gastrointestinal Surgery in the Hexi Region: Domestic Toumai Robotic Surgery Training Course for Radical Gastrectomy and 2026 Wuwei Standardized GI Tumor Care & New Methods and Progress Academic Conference Successfully Held
On August 8, the 2026 New Technologies and Advances in Gastrointestinal Surgery in the Hexi Region: Domestic Toumai Robotic Surgery Training Course for Radical Gastrectomy and the 2026 Wuwei Academic Conference on Standardized GI Tumor Care & New Methods and Progress were grandly held in Conference Room 1 of the Wuwei Heavy Ion Center. The conference established a high‑level academic exchange platform for gastrointestinal surgery in the Hexi region and holds significant importance in advancing the implementation of standardized GI tumor care, promoting the adoption of minimally invasive techniques, and enhancing comprehensive treatment capabilities for digestive tract cancers.

The conference opened with remarks by Professor Zhang Yanshan, Vice President of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital. In his speech, Professor Zhang reflected on the development journey of the Wuwei Heavy Ion Center — from its early construction to its current state of operational excellence and extensive clinical case accumulation. Following his address, guest speakers Professor Yang Xiongfei from Gansu Provincial Hospital and Professor Chen Hongbing, Director of the Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery at Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital, delivered opening speeches. The first academic session was chaired by Professor Yang Xiongfei from Gansu Provincial Hospital.
- Professor Li Shaotang from the First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University presented on "Advances in Pelvic Anatomy and PPI SR Surgical Techniques," systematically reviewing the latest research and operative standards.
- Professor Jiang Lei from The First Hospital of Lanzhou University presented on "Diagnosis and Management of Malignant Bowel Obstruction with Typical Case Analysis," sharing clinical experience through real‑world cases.
- Professor Zhang Yanshan, Vice President of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital, delivered a report on "Application of Heavy Ions in Digestive Tract Tumors," highlighting the unique advantages and clinical prospects of heavy ion therapy in this field.
Panel discussions followed, featuring experts including Gao Dengxue, Wang Zhiyue, Shi Quanye, Ren Guorong, Ma Zhongzhen, and Li Nengpeng, fostering a rich academic atmosphere throughout the session.

- Professor Xing Dong from Zhangye Second People's Hospital presented on "Evolution and Selection of Bariatric Surgery Approaches."
- Professor Chen Hongbing delivered a report on "Lymph Node Dissection Strategies in Laparoscopic/Robotic Radical Surgery for GI Tumors," sharing core technical insights in minimally invasive lymphadenectomy.
Panel discussions followed with experts including Zhang Jianrong, Gai Zhigang, Zhang Xiaoru, Shi Fei, and Zhao Zhengjiang. Professor Chen Hongbing delivered the closing summary.
