Wuwei Hosts Joint Meetings to Advance Minimally Invasive Gastric Cancer Care

On August 8, the "2026 Wuwei Precision Minimally Invasive Surgical and Nursing Symposium on Gastric Cancer," hosted by the Gansu Medical Association Oncology Branch and the Gansu Anti-Cancer Association Minimally Invasive Oncology Committee and organized by Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital, was grandly held in Meeting Room 1 of the Wuwei Heavy Ion Center. Leading experts in minimally invasive gastric cancer surgery from across China and colleagues from Gansu Province gathered in the Hexi Corridor to engage in in-depth discussions on cutting-edge topics including robotic gastric cancer surgery, function‑preserving procedures, and AI‑driven precision diagnosis and treatment. The symposium established a high‑level academic exchange platform to promote the standardization and precision advancement of minimally invasive gastric cancer surgery in the region.

The opening ceremony was chaired by Wang Jihong, Director of the Department of Gastric Surgery at Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital. Speeches were delivered by Nie Peng, Vice President of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital; Professor Guan Quanlin from The First Hospital of Lanzhou University; and Professor Zhou Yanbing from The Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University. They emphasized that the symposium aims to bring together top national expertise and exchange cutting‑edge technical achievements, leveraging the advantages of the heavy ion platform to accelerate the development of a standardized precision minimally invasive surgical system for gastric cancer and elevate regional gastric cancer care to a new level.

• Professor Ning Ning from Peking University International Hospital shared Robot‑Assisted Function‑Preserving Surgery for C‑GCLM Type I Gastric Cancer with Liver Metastasis, offering an in‑depth analysis of innovative applications of robotic surgery in function‑preserving procedures for gastric cancer with liver metastases.
• Professor Zhao Changying from Gansu Second Provincial People's Hospital presented on Application of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) in Gastrointestinal Surgery, systematically outlining the standardized implementation of ERAS principles in perioperative gastrointestinal care.

In recent years, the department has developed distinctive technical strengths in robot‑assisted radical gastrectomy and laparoscopic function‑preserving gastrectomy. Leveraging the globally unique heavy ion therapy platform, the hospital has established a collaborative dual‑center development framework between Wuwei and Lanzhou. To date, the Wuwei Heavy Ion Center has treated more than 3,000 cancer patients.
