Clinical Outcomes Win Trust, Standards Open Doors to the World – National Cancer Center Korea Delegation Visits Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital Heavy Ion Center

On August 8, a delegation from the National Cancer Center Korea visited the Heavy Ion Center of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital. The delegation was led by Kim Tae‑Hyun, Director of the National Cancer Center Korea, and included Chief Medical Physicists Shin Dong‑Ho and Kim Hak‑Soo, business lead Kim Jong‑Hyun from the Samcheok Heavy Ion Equipment Procurement Center, team leaders Kim Jae‑Min and Shin Gyu‑Dae, and Choi Sung, head of the Ilwolseong Corporation.

The delegation toured the sand table model room, the heavy ion treatment area, the central control room, and the smart hospital command center. Staff provided a systematic introduction to the principles of heavy ion technology, equipment operation, clinical outcomes, and research progress. In‑depth discussions were held with our expert team on key topics such as patient selection for heavy ion therapy, dose planning, and quality control. The delegation highly commended China's independent innovation achievements in heavy ion equipment. This "great national instrument" has filled the gap in China's high‑end radiotherapy equipment, established a "Chinese solution" for cancer treatment, and achieved a historic leap from following to leading in heavy ion medicine — injecting strong Chinese strength into the global advancement and accessibility of radiotherapy.

As the birthplace of domestically produced heavy ion technology and an industry benchmark, the Wuwei Heavy Ion Center has long established international credibility through solid clinical data. The center has independently developed nine leading diagnostic and treatment technologies, both domestically and internationally, and is the only institution in China to operate two heavy ion therapy systems simultaneously. Its original techniques — including organ‑tumor spacer radiotherapy and dual Bragg peak lattice radiotherapy — have precisely addressed the treatment challenges of complex and refractory tumors. To date, the center has completed more than 3,000 heavy ion treatments, covering all provinces in China and attracting patients from countries including Belgium, Australia, South Korea, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, Canada, Jordan, and Serbia.

Built upon the heavy ion diagnosis and treatment system, the center has established a comprehensive international medical service framework, including a multilingual official service platform, intelligent VR‑guided navigation, personalized dietary planning, and religious and humanistic care services. The number of international patients has been steadily rising year by year, reflecting the growing foundation of high‑quality international medical services. At the same time, the center regularly hosts high‑level international academic exchange platforms, continuously integrating global medical resources and engaging top domestic and international experts for on‑site clinical guidance and collaborative research — providing solid talent and technical support for precision diagnosis and continuous technological advancement.
