Advancing Dermatology and Immunology: Summit in Wuwei Sets New Benchmark for Regional Diagnosis and Treatment
The Wuwei Summit on Skin and Immune Diseases & the 2026 Annual Conference of the 4th Dermatology and Venereology Committee Successfully Convened at Our Hospital
On August 1, the Wuwei Summit on Skin and Immune Diseases, alongside the 2026 Annual Conference of the 4th Dermatology and Venereology Committee of the Wuwei Medical Association, was successfully held at the Heavy Ion Center of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital. Hosted by the Dermatology and Venereology Committee of the Wuwei Medical Association and organized by Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital, the event brought together leading authorities and frontline medical professionals from across the province to promote the standardization and precision of regional skin immune disease diagnosis and treatment, injecting new momentum into the high-quality development of the discipline.

The conference was presided over by Professor Xu Yanfeng, Director of Dermatology at Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital. Opening addresses were delivered by Nie Peng, Vice President of the hospital; Professor Wang Junxian, President of the Wuwei Medical Association; and Professor Luo Zhicheng, Emeritus Director of Dermatology at the Second Hospital of Lanzhou University. The speakers shared their expectations regarding discipline construction, regional collaboration, and standardized development, officially launching the academic agenda. Following the speeches, the three leaders presented certificates to the newly appointed members of the 4th Wuwei Dermatology and Venereology Committee.

The academic sessions featured a stellar lineup of experts who delivered systematic lectures on cutting-edge topics in dermatological immunology. Professor Wu Jin from the Second Hospital of Lanzhou University provided an in-depth interpretation of the Expert Consensus on Childhood Atopic Dermatitis, offering authoritative guidance for clinical practice. Professor Wu Xianwei from Gansu Provincial People's Hospital discussed biologic therapy strategies for psoriasis, noting that IL-23 inhibitors—by acting on the upstream of inflammation to comprehensively block pathways and maintain immune balance—offer more stable and durable efficacy, making them a preferred conversion strategy based on clinical data analysis. Professor Xia Yu from the Affiliated Zhangye People's Hospital of Hexi University systematically explained the diagnosis and treatment of common skin tumors in the elderly, clarifying differential diagnosis approaches for tumor-related skin lesions. Professor Ding Xiaoqin from Liangzhou Hospital emphasized that dermatologists must possess solid theoretical foundations, keen clinical thinking, standardized protocols, and a patient-centered philosophy when managing severe drug eruptions and the long-term care of psoriasis. Professor Li Shan, Director of Dermatology at Wuwei People's Hospital, shared insights and experience regarding the Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Refractory Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria in China. Additionally, Professor Xu Yanfeng of our hospital delivered a lecture titled "Saying Goodbye to Facial Redness Scientifically," analyzing the pathogenesis of rosacea and its stepwise treatment protocol. Grounded in clinical reality and aligned with frontier research, the sessions fostered a vibrant atmosphere for academic exchange.

Participants conducted in-depth exchanges on emerging trends and clinical pain points.

Panel Discussants
As the chair unit of the Dermatology and Venereology Committee of the Wuwei Medical Association, the Dermatology and Cosmetology Department of our hospital was established in 2000. With 25 years of development, its influence now extends across Wuwei’s three counties and one district, as well as neighboring cities like Jinchang and Zhangye. The department operates under standardized management with comprehensive equipment, routinely performing procedures including general dermatological diagnosis and treatment, cosmetic dermatology, allergen testing, digital dermoscopy, sensitive skin repair, chemical peels, microneedling for hair loss, Wood's lamp examination, and liquid nitrogen cryotherapy. It has built a comprehensive service platform integrating medical treatment and aesthetics. Furthermore, the department has joined the Gansu Provincial Dermatology Alliance and the National Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine Medical Center Hair Disease Medical Consortium, and has been recognized as a member unit of the Western China Hair Health Alliance.

Standing at this new starting point, Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital will continue to leverage its advantages as a regional medical center and its leadership role as the chair unit of the committee. We are committed to deepening academic collaboration with top-tier institutions both inside and outside the province, institutionalizing standardized training and grassroots support for skin immune diseases, and accelerating the dissemination of standardized technologies to primary care facilities. By refining multidisciplinary collaboration and whole-course management systems, we aim to deliver meticulous, standardized, and compassionate care, contributing to the "Healthy Wuwei" initiative and safeguarding the skin health and quality of life for the population in Northwest China.
