Renowned TCM Physicians Bring Expert Care and Academic Leadership to Our Hospital – Free Clinics and Lectures Series

On July 29, several renowned TCM physicians from Gansu Province were invited to our hospital for a series of activities including free clinics, campus tours, and academic lectures. The experts provided syndrome‑based diagnosis and treatment to patients on the frontlines, and toured the hospital campus and the Heavy Ion Center. This initiative aims to facilitate the downward distribution of high‑quality TCM resources, enhance the level of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine in cancer care, strengthen the unique role of TCM in cancer prevention and treatment, deepen the "TCM + heavy ion" integrative medicine model, and support the hospital's high‑quality development.

That afternoon, the academic lecture session opened with warm applause. Wang Fengmei, Assistant to the President of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital, moderated the session. Professor Wang Longde, a renowned TCM physician of Gansu Province and Executive Vice President of the Affiliated Hospital of Gansu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, delivered a lecture titled Exploring HP‑Related Issues and Clinical Insights, providing a systematic and in‑depth discussion on the integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine approach to Helicobacter pylori management. Professor Lei Xudong, also a renowned TCM physician of Gansu Province, from the Gansu Hospital of Sun Yat‑sen University Cancer Center (Gansu Cancer Hospital), presented on Whole‑Course Nutritional Management for Cancer Patients, systematically elucidating the important role of nutritional therapy in comprehensive cancer care. Also in attendance and participating in the discussions were Professor Zhang Xiaogang, Professor Ma Hongbin, Vice President Su Anping of the Lanzhou Campus of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital, and Li Yinghong, Director of the Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Department at Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital.

Founded in 1978, our hospital has remained committed to the balanced development of both traditional Chinese and Western medicine. With a mission of inheritance and innovation and a foundation rooted in talent development, we have made sustained progress in the field of TCM. The hospital has established municipal‑level key specialties, including the Department of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine and the TCM Oncology Specialty. As a base for preserving and advancing the academic legacy of Professor Pei Zhengxue, a renowned national TCM expert, the “Professor Pei Zhengxue Clinical Experience Inheritance Base for Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine” operates effectively, translating his academic thought and clinical experience directly into practice. Under Professor Pei's personal guidance, 10 disciples, including Li Yinghong and Chen Yuxia, have successfully completed their training and become key practitioners in the field of integrated TCM‑Western medicine. Nationally renowned TCM expert Professor Mi Denghai and Professor Cao Jingyu, a direct disciple of Professor Pei, continue to work in clinical practice, promoting the widespread application of integrated TCM‑Western medicine in cancer treatment. Provincial‑level TCM experts, including Chief Physicians Wang Lanying, Zhao Mingfang, and Wang Yuming, provide strong support, forming a multi‑level, high‑caliber TCM talent pipeline. In recent years, the hospital has developed and introduced 25 new TCM formulations for clinical use, including “Fuzheng Guben Granules” and “Rukang Capsules,” filling a gap in hospital‑based and municipal‑level TCM preparations in Wuwei. With the clinical introduction of China’s first heavy ion therapy system with independent intellectual property rights in Wuwei, the hospital has pioneered the “TCM + heavy ion” whole‑life‑cycle cancer treatment model nationwide, offering a paradigm for the deep integration of traditional Chinese medicine and cutting‑edge modern technology.

Inheriting the Essence, Upholding Integrity, and Innovating. This event, combining free clinics and bedside teaching with academic lectures, brought provincial‑level high‑quality TCM resources directly to the clinical frontline, injecting strong momentum into the advancement of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine cancer care at our hospital. Looking ahead, Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital will continue to deepen its work in integrated TCM‑Western medicine oncology, leveraging the strengths of the heavy ion platform to further explore and promote the "TCM + heavy ion" Chinese model. By integrating Eastern wisdom with cutting‑edge technology, we aim to bring more hope to cancer patients.
