Summer Reading Session for Families at Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital

In the radiant summer light, books impart their fragrance; in white coats, warmth is passed on, accompanying the children along the way. To enrich the summer cultural life of the children of our medical staff and to foster strong family values, the Women's Committee of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital, in collaboration with the Youth League Committee, hosted a summer parent‑child reading session titled "Nourishing Young Minds Through Books, Growing with Family" on the afternoon of July 29 at the Heavy Ion Library. Several families of medical staff gathered together, using shared reading and poetry recitation as a bond to cultivate a sense of patriotism through the written word, and to pass on the healing spirit and strong family traditions through warm companionship.

The reading session was structured around five main themes: inspiration and gratitude, red classics, traditional Chinese culture, family values and mottos, and life education. With full consideration of the shift‑based nature of healthcare work, the event was designed to be voluntary and relaxed, avoiding any rigid formalities. Medical professionals — who usually work on the frontlines, moving between wards and operating rooms — set aside their busy schedules for a moment and joined their children on stage, sharing this precious parent‑child time together.

The atmosphere at the event was filled with the warmth of books and a cozy, heartfelt ambiance. The children performed with confidence and flair, presenting a series of delightful acts — including a dance piece titled Wind and Dust Stay, a children's recitation of Little Nott, as well as readings of Youth China, Man Jiang Hong, The Scarecrow, and an original piece, Two Kinds of Commitment in Family Values. The parents joined in with warmth and dedication, their recitations filled with genuine emotion, revealing the deep bond between parent and child, and vividly conveying the spirit of medicine — reverence for life, compassion, and a sense of responsibility.

Good family values foster a noble work ethic, and a noble work ethic drives progress in our endeavors. The hospital Women's Committee has long placed great emphasis on family value development as a key means of uniting staff and cultivating a positive professional ethos. It has continued to plan family‑oriented activities tailored to the realities of medical work, using the power of reading to enrich family culture and allowing the spirit of medicine to take root in the hearts of the younger generation.

Going forward, the Women's Committee will continue to focus on the real‑life needs of staff families, regularly organizing special cultural activities such as parent‑child reading and family story‑sharing, to further enrich the cultural and spiritual lives of employees. Through strong family values, we aim to build a cohesive force for dedication and innovation, infusing the high‑quality development of the hospital's healthcare services with a warm and enduring humanistic spirit.
