On July 25, the "Tianma Surgical Expertise" Series of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Academic Conferences was successfully held at Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital. Organized by the Gansu Anti-Cancer Association and hosted by Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital, the event brought together multiple concurrent forums, including the Southwest Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Elite Forum (Liangzhou Session), the "Qiangqiang Sanrenxing" Wuwei Tour, and the Gansu Anti-Cancer Association Pancreatic Cancer Professional Committee (Preparatory Group) Wuwei Lecture Tour. Leading hepatobiliary surgery experts from tertiary hospitals across the country gathered in the Hexi Corridor to engage in in-depth discussions on minimally invasive techniques and precision comprehensive diagnosis and treatment for hepatobiliary and pancreatic tumors. The conference also featured public welfare free clinic activities, providing a high-level yet accessible academic exchange platform for regional medical professionals.
The opening ceremony was chaired by Liang Yuchuan, Director of the Department of Hepatobiliary, Pancreatic, and Splenic Surgery at Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital. Leveraging the world's only dual‑heavy‑ion therapy system platform, the hospital has established a collaborative dual‑center framework between Wuwei and Lanzhou. To date, the Wuwei Heavy Ion Center has treated over 3,000 cancer patients, including 345 cases of pancreatic cancer. The 1‑year local control rate for these patients exceeded 90%, with a median survival of 17 months. This year, the hospital successfully performed Gansu Province's first Y‑90 microsphere precision interventional procedure for liver cancer, establishing an integrated nuclear medicine model combining "heavy ion external‑beam radiotherapy + targeted radionuclide therapy" and opening a new pathway for the clinical treatment of hepatobiliary and pancreatic tumors. The department has also introduced a series of new techniques, including combined multi‑endoscopy stone extraction, precision hepatectomy, one‑stop ERCP+LC, PD‑1 combined chemotherapy, laparoscopic partial splenectomy, and PVE‑combined hepatectomy.
