Advancing Regional Lymphoma Care, Opening a New Chapter in Multidisciplinary Collaboration
On July 17, the "Lymphoma Regional Diagnosis and Treatment Center Symposium," organized by the Beijing Medical Laboratory Association and hosted by Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital, was successfully held at the Wuwei Heavy Ion Center of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital. The symposium brought together renowned experts and scholars in lymphoma diagnosis and treatment from across the province and beyond, engaging in in‑depth discussions on cutting‑edge technologies and clinical experience. During the event, the guests jointly unveiled the "Lymphoma Regional Diagnosis and Treatment Center" plaque, marking the official establishment of this standardized lymphoma care platform based in the Hexi region and serving the broader Northwest. This initiative will provide more precise and effective multidisciplinary diagnostic and treatment services for cancer patients in the region.
The symposium featured special invited experts, including Professor Fu Lin, Professor Sun Shengjun, Professor Cui Heng, Professor Sun Xuefei, and Professor Li Xue from Beijing Tiantan Hospital, Capital Medical University, along with specialists from the First Hospital of Lanzhou University, Jiuquan First People's Hospital, Liangzhou District Hospital, and multidisciplinary core team members from our hospital's departments of Hematology, Pathology, and Nursing. Clinical colleagues specializing in hematologic oncology, pathology, imaging, and nursing from various medical institutions across Wuwei gathered at our hospital to participate in this high‑level academic event, which integrated cutting‑edge concepts and practical experience, fostering consensus and building momentum for the overall advancement of regional lymphoma diagnosis and treatment capabilities.
At the symposium, Professor Fu Lin from Beijing Tiantan Hospital, Capital Medical University, noted in his address that the establishment of the regional diagnosis and treatment center will create a direct academic collaboration channel between Beijing and Gansu, facilitating the precise dissemination of standardized diagnostic and treatment protocols to primary‑care institutions in Northwest China, and enabling high‑quality medical resources to benefit a broader patient population. Cai Qinghua, Vice President of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital, also delivered a speech, emphasizing that lymphoma diagnosis and treatment are a critical component of the whole‑life‑cycle oncology service system. She stated that the hospital will use the establishment of this center as a new starting point to deeply integrate the precision advantages of heavy ion therapy with standardized lymphoma care, building a complete service pathway from screening through to rehabilitation.

Following the speeches, in the presence of all the attending guests, Vice President Cai Qinghua and Professor Fu Lin from Beijing Tiantan Hospital, Capital Medical University, jointly unveiled the "Lymphoma Diagnosis and Treatment Center" plaque, marking the beginning of a new stage in the professionalization, standardization, and collaborative development of lymphoma care at our hospital.
During the academic lecture session, experts from Beijing Tiantan Hospital, Capital Medical University, and our hospital delivered systematic presentations on lymphoma discipline development and diagnostic/treatment standards: Professor Fu Lin used primary central nervous system lymphoma as a starting point to systematically outline a development pathway driven by breakthroughs in a single disease type. Professor Sun Shengjun focused on imaging diagnosis and research progress in brain lymphoma, sharing the key role of imaging in precision diagnostic and therapeutic support. Professor Sun Xuefei provided an in‑depth interpretation of the whole‑course management strategy for primary central nervous system lymphoma, outlining standardized workflows from diagnosis to follow‑up. Professor Cui Heng explored the important mechanism of immune evasion induced by factors such as changes in the tumor microenvironment as a driver of DLBCL resistance, providing a theoretical basis for the clinical translation of novel therapeutic strategies. Professor Li Xue used typical cases to explain the key diagnostic points and reasoning in central nervous system lymphoma pathology. Director Wang Cong of our hospital's Hematology Department presented a systematic report on the development plan for the Lymphoma Diagnosis and Treatment Center, clarifying the discipline's direction and implementation pathway. The lectures were clinically grounded, closely aligned with current advances, and conducted in a vibrant academic atmosphere.

As a key municipal discipline and a core member of the Northwest Hematology Specialty Alliance, our Department of Hematology has developed distinctive strengths in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, blood cell apheresis, and precision‑stratified therapy. In recent years, the department has been designated as a Training Center for the ITP Whole‑Course Management Quality Improvement Project by the Chinese Medical Association, a founding member of the National Pediatric Lymphoma Diagnosis and Treatment Collaborative Group, and a sub‑center of the Gansu Clinical Research Center for Leukemia. Its capabilities in the diagnosis and treatment of hematologic disorders rank among the top in the Hexi region. With the establishment of the Diagnosis and Treatment Center as a driving force, the department will continue to deepen the integration of laboratory diagnostics and clinical care, translating its accumulated expertise into a core engine for regional collaborative development.
From years of dedicated specialty development to the official launch of a regional diagnosis and treatment center, this academic event represents not only the exchange of cutting‑edge ideas, but also a vivid demonstration of Beijing‑Gansu collaboration and a practical step forward in multidisciplinary integrated care. Standing at this new starting point, Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital will continue to leverage the strategic advantages of its heavy ion technology and its role as a regional medical center. Built upon the Lymphoma Diagnosis and Treatment Center, the hospital will deepen strategic partnerships with top medical institutions nationwide, routinely implement multidisciplinary team (MDT) collaboration, accelerate the dissemination of standardized diagnostic and treatment techniques to primary‑care settings, and enhance the integrated system of specialized nursing and precision pathology. Through refined, standardized, and compassionate care, the hospital will contribute to regional health development and extend the benefits of standardized lymphoma care to broader communities across Northwest China, making a solid and powerful contribution to the Healthy China strategy from the western region.
