Lanzhou Campus of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital Launches Hepatobiliary Center

On June 27, 2026, the Hepatobiliary Center at the Lanzhou Campus of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital officially opened. The establishment of this new department marks a key step in the development of a multidisciplinary comprehensive diagnosis and treatment system for hepatobiliary diseases at our Lanzhou Campus. It further strengthens the regional specialty care infrastructure for liver diseases and hepatobiliary tumors, bringing integrated, standardized diagnostic and treatment services to patients in Lanzhou and surrounding areas.

The opening ceremony was held on the 8th floor of the Inpatient Complex Building at the Lanzhou Campus. The ceremony was hosted by Vice President Su Anping. Honorary Dean Zhang Wenhua and the Director of the Hepatobiliary Center attended and delivered remarks. Vice President Li Xiaojun, along with department heads from various administrative divisions, clinical department directors, head nurses, and hospital medical and nursing staff, participated in the event.

The establishment of the Hepatobiliary Center represents an important strategic move by the hospital to expand medical services in Lanzhou and address gaps in specialty care. It is hoped that the department will build a strong talent team and comprehensively enhance the regional capacity for hepatobiliary disease management. Honorary Dean and Director of the Hepatobiliary Center, Zhang Wenhua, emphasized that the department should rely on technology and talent development, integrate resources from internal medicine, surgery, minimally invasive interventions, and Y‑90 therapy, and leverage the distinctive strengths of heavy ion technology to build a leading specialty brand. Representatives from other departments also shared their views on interdisciplinary collaboration and two‑way referral mechanisms.

Academic Exchange Session

The subsequent academic exchange session was moderated by Jia Wenling, Director of the First Department of Hepatology. Experts delivered special academic presentations on cutting‑edge clinical technologies, including clinical cure strategies for chronic hepatitis B, precision Y‑90 targeted therapy for liver cancer, minimally invasive iodine‑125 seed implantation, and minimally invasive gallbladder‑preserving stone removal.

During the session, participants discussed and agreed that the center will integrate multidisciplinary technical resources to establish a comprehensive, full‑spectrum care pathway for hepatobiliary diseases, building an integrated system that combines chronic liver disease prevention and treatment with precision therapy for hepatobiliary tumors.

Looking ahead, the Lanzhao Campus Hepatobiliary Center represents a key specialty in Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital’s efforts to optimize its clinical structure and expand medical services in the Lanzhou area. Moving forward, the department will continue to strengthen academic exchanges and technological innovation, integrate minimally invasive techniques and precision radiotherapy for tumors with traditional hepatology care, and fully leverage the unique advantages of heavy ion therapy for cancer. By doing so, the center will continuously enhance its capacity to diagnose and treat complex hepatobiliary diseases, dedicated to protecting the health of the people of Gansu.
