Care with Heart, Guard with Love – Joining Hands with Patients, Uniting Hearts to Build Warm Hope in the Fight Against Cancer

The journey against cancer is long and arduous. The prolonged chemotherapy courses, recurring physical and mental anguish, and various challenges of at-home recovery test not only the resilience of every cancer patient but also weigh on the hearts of their families. On the front lines of clinical care, the entire medical team of the Chemotherapy Department remains true to their mission. They fortify health defenses with professional, expert nursing, soothe the shadows of the soul with warm, humanistic care, and uphold their service commitment: to alleviate suffering with professional treatment and nursing, and to warm hearts with genuine compassion, ensuring no one walks the anti-cancer path alone.

In April 2026, the Chemotherapy Department warmly organized a public welfare patient exchange event with the theme "Doctors and Patients Join Hands, Building Hope Together." This activity focused on the core, essential needs of hospitalized chemotherapy patients, at-home recovery patients, and their accompanying family members. Moving away from rigid science popularization and one-way lectures, it brought together the department's key medical staff and connected with seasoned cancer survivors serving as role models. This created an immersive platform to bridge the hearts of doctors and patients and foster mutual warmth and support among patients themselves. The entire event balanced specialized medical professionalism with the warmth of caring service, effectively extending high-quality nursing care throughout the entire treatment cycle and all recovery scenarios. Every word and action exemplified the responsibility and compassion of oncology care professionals.

The event strategically gathered high-quality medical and nursing resources. The department director oversaw the overall planning, the head nurse managed on-site nursing services and warm coordination, and the entire team of key department medical staff participated fully, providing one-on-one Q&A sessions. Additionally, several seasoned survivors—who have fought cancer for years and now enjoy good physical and mental well-being—were specially invited to share their experiences in person, offering warm, face-to-face encouragement and fortitude. A total of 20 participants attended the offline event in person, most accompanied by family members. All attendees listened attentively throughout, engaged actively in discussions, and the atmosphere was warm, harmonious, and filled with goodwill. There were no barriers or distance, only the healing power of shared purpose and mutual support.

The entire event adopted a unique tripartite format featuring on-site specialized presentations, genuine experience sharing by recovery role models, and immersive, heartwarming interactions through "Wish Cards." This approach broke away from the rigid framework of traditional health education, effectively combining the delivery of practical, actionable information with emotional and psychological support. It closely catered to the dual physical and psychological care needs of cancer patients, ensuring that every attendee could gain valuable knowledge, find peace of mind, and have practical guidance to rely on.

Fighting cancer is never a lone battle for an individual, nor is it a burden shouldered alone by a single family. At the beginning of the event, the medical team, grounded in real frontline clinical scenarios, used accessible and warm language along with practical cases to meticulously explain the core characteristics of common conditions treated in chemotherapy. They patiently detailed the objective realities of cancer treatment—its prolonged disease course, susceptibility to fluctuations, and challenges in comprehensive management—while deeply analyzing the dual physical and psychological trials brought by long-term chemotherapy, such as bodily discomfort, anxiety, and sleep disturbances. At the same time, they empathetically addressed the psychological, financial, and caregiving pressures faced by family caregivers. This approach guided both patients and their families to confront the objective challenges of the anti-cancer journey, letting go of panic, anxiety, unfounded suspicions, and negative resistance, and instead working together to build a positive, science-based, rational, and collaborative mindset toward treatment.

The post-chemotherapy home recovery phase is a critical period marked by heightened risks of complications, concentrated care challenges, and a time when family caregivers can easily feel overwhelmed and uncertain. It is also a primary focus for our dedicated nursing team. During the specialized on-site care education session, we zeroed in on essential home safety needs, offering thorough, meticulous, and hands-on health guidance. To address the common at-home care concerns associated with PICC lines, medical staff conducted practical, step-by-step demonstrations. They detailed the key points for daily self-inspection, shared tips for selecting loose-fitting clothing, explained safe sleeping postures to avoid, outlined guidelines for gentle bathing and waterproof protection, and demonstrated standard movements for appropriate, science-based functional rehabilitation exercises. They also clearly defined the standardized response procedures for urgent situations such as abnormal redness, swelling, bleeding, dislodgement, or blockage of the line—emphasizing timely reporting and seeking nearby medical help. This approach delivered professional nursing knowledge directly and practically to patients, solidly reinforcing a safety net for their secure and confident recovery at home.

A thousand pieces of professional advice cannot compare to the power of genuine, lived experience. For this event, we specially invited several cancer survivors—individuals who have battled the disease for years, successfully navigated high-risk recurrence periods, and now maintain good physical and mental health. Setting aside any preconceptions, they openly shared their personal journeys through cancer from an ordinary person’s perspective. They candidly recounted the shock and helplessness at initial diagnosis, the perseverance through difficult chemotherapy phases, the self-discipline during home recovery, and practical tips for emotional and mental adjustment. Without holding back, they passed on their real-world recovery experience: following treatment scientifically, adhering to regular check-ups, maintaining an optimistic outlook, and practicing disciplined self-care.

A warm, confidential group agreement was established on-site, emphasizing respectful listening, sincere empathy, and positive encouragement. Throughout the event, patient privacy was protected, their stories were heard with patience, and emotions were gently guided. This allowed patients currently undergoing treatment to see living hope and helped anxious, overwhelmed family members to ease their psychological burdens, building shared confidence and solidarity in the fight against cancer through mutual understanding and empathy.

Healing requires not only proper medication and professional care but also emotional comfort, release, and the empowerment of hope. As the event concluded, we carefully set up a warm "Wish Wall," providing note cards and colored pens, and invited every patient and family member to freely write down their innermost hopes, their determination in facing illness, their gratitude toward medical staff, and their dreams for a better life.

Note cards filled with sincere, heartfelt messages gradually covered the warm Wish Wall—some expressing hopes for a swift recovery, others offering blessings for their family’s well-being, and many conveying gratitude for the unity between doctors and patients. In that moment, all anxieties found gentle release, and every hope gained a dedicated place. These sparks of light converged into a warm stream of courage against cancer, continuously strengthening everyone’s positive resolve and uniting the powerful healing force of doctors, patients, and fellow survivors walking forward together.

This systematic specialized education comprehensively covers practical, multidimensional knowledge for at-home care throughout the chemotherapy cycle. It includes long-term PICC line maintenance, tiered management of chemotherapy side effects, standardized and individualized scientific control of cancer pain, and the safe, rational use of analgesic medications. Designed to be easy to understand, highly practical, and tailored to the home environment, it aims to fill knowledge gaps in family caregiving, enhance patients' self-health management capabilities, reduce risks of complications arising from improper home care, and leverage professional medical knowledge to help alleviate patients' physical distress.

Unlike the often impersonal nature of clinical treatment, this exchange event centered on warm companionship and empathetic communication throughout. The genuine resonance shared by recovery role models, the patient guidance from medical staff, and the mutual encouragement among fellow patients all helped to soothe the fear, anxiety, isolation, loneliness, and negative emotions that can accompany long-term chemotherapy. With sincere care, we gently guarded each vulnerable heart, fortifying a psychological line of warmth and support. This bolstered patients' confidence to actively fight cancer, embrace life positively, and cooperate fully with their treatment.

Setting aside the hurried pace of the clinic, medical staff immersed themselves, sitting down face-to-face and heart-to-heart. They listened attentively to patients' needs, addressed families' concerns, and answered nursing-related questions. This close, compassionate communication bridged distances, dispelled worries, and fostered greater understanding. It further enhanced the patient experience and their willingness to engage with treatment, promoting a united front where doctors and patients stand shoulder-to-shoulder in the fight against illness.

The "Doctors and Patients Join Hands, Building Hope Together" patient exchange event has now concluded successfully. However, the warmth of companionship does not end here, and our professional dedication never ceases. Moving forward, the entire nursing team of the Chemotherapy Department will remain steadfast in our original mission: to care with heart and protect with love. We will continue to deepen our expertise in oncology chemotherapy nursing, refine our professional skills, and optimize our compassionate, humanistic services. We are committed to using our professional strength to alleviate patients' suffering and our genuine warmth to soothe emotional wounds. Together, doctors and patients, united in purpose and walking side-by-side, we will journey toward a brighter path of recovery and collectively build a warm beacon of hope in the fight against cancer.
