Standardizing IV Therapy Procedures to Enhance Safety
Standardizing IV Therapy Procedures to Enhance Safety — Our Hospital Holds Specialized IV Nursing Training
To further standardize clinical intravenous therapy nursing procedures, enhance the collaborative management level of medical staff, and effectively prevent diagnosis and treatment safety risks, a specialized medical nursing training session was successfully conducted on April 24 at the Lanzhou Campus of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital.

The training was hosted by Zhao Hui, Director of the Nursing Department at the Lanzhou Campus of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital, and featured several renowned nursing specialists as guest lecturers. Medical and nursing staff from relevant departments across the hospital participated in the training.
During the lecture sessions, Professor Wang Panfeng, Director of the Nursing Department at Peking University Third Hospital, delivered two presentations on topics including promoting intravenous therapy safety through nursing informatics and the role of health education in intravenous therapy. She provided detailed explanations on the application of nursing information technology in intravenous therapy, key points of safety management in intravenous therapy, and implementation pathways for patient health education, helping participating medical staff establish a scientific concept of intravenous therapy safety, master standardized health education methods, and solidify the foundation of intravenous therapy safety. Wu Songbo, Head Nurse of the Radiation Oncology Department at Peking University Third Hospital, presented a special lecture on clinical strategies for selecting intravenous infusion access. Based on different patient conditions and treatment needs, she systematically explained the applicable scenarios, selection principles, and operational standards for various types of intravenous infusion access, providing professional guidance for clinical medical staff to reasonably select infusion access and enhance infusion treatment safety. Ma Jun, Head Nurse of the Radiotherapy Outpatient Clinic at Peking University Third Hospital, focused on the prevention and management of extravasation of contrast media under high-pressure intravenous injection. Using real clinical cases, she deeply analyzed the predisposing factors, key prevention and control points, graded management procedures, and emergency treatment techniques for contrast media extravasation. Through practical operation reviews and in-depth case analysis, participants gained an intuitive command of complication prevention and management skills, effectively reducing the risk of adverse diagnosis and treatment events.
The afternoon training sessions continued to deepen the professional content. Professor Wang Panfeng delivered another lecture on the theme of nursing informatics promoting the quality of intravenous therapy nursing, explaining the application of nursing information technology in intravenous therapy process management, quality traceability, and risk alert, empowering medical staff to optimize intravenous therapy management through information technology and improve nursing efficiency and standardization. Su Linlin, Head Nurse of the Nursing Department at the Lanzhou Campus of Gansu Wuwei Tumor Hospital, presented a special course on core practice guidelines for nursing safety. She provided an in-depth interpretation of key nursing safety management requirements, clinical risk prevention and control points, and operational standards, emphasizing the optimization of medical-nursing collaboration processes and the strengthening of responsibility awareness, offering clear practical directions for ensuring clinical nursing safety and improving nursing service quality.
