Ningbo University Affiliated People's Hospital Delegation Visits Wuwei Heavy Ion Center
On the morning of April 25, a delegation of leaders from the Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy Center of Ningbo University Affiliated People's Hospital visited Wuwei Heavy Ion Center of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital for an on-site inspection and research. The delegation aimed to gain an in-depth understanding of the clinical application outcomes of domestic heavy ion technology in tumor radiotherapy, focusing on the precision radiotherapy technology system and standardized diagnosis and treatment system of heavy ion therapy. They also exchanged advanced experiences in the development of tumor radiotherapy disciplines and the translation of scientific research, seeking to promote the coordinated development of radiotherapy.

During the visit, the delegation toured the sand table model room, core treatment area, smart hospital command center, and central control room. Guided by the staff, the delegation members closely observed the operational status of the heavy ion therapy system and its high-end diagnostic and treatment support facilities. They also received an in-depth introduction to the planning and layout of the "China Heavy Ion Health Town" and the "heavy ion therapy integrated with whole-life physical and mental health management model." The two sides engaged in practical discussions on topics such as expanding the indications for heavy ion radiotherapy technology, multidisciplinary collaboration models, and whole-process patient management, experiencing firsthand the innovative achievements resulting from the deep integration of domestic cutting-edge radiotherapy equipment with clinical practice.

As the birthplace of domestic heavy ion technology and a leading hub for its clinical application, the Wuwei Heavy Ion Center is hailed by the industry as the "Jinggang Mountain" of ion radiotherapy. Leveraging a strong research platform and profound clinical expertise, the center has not only overcome numerous technical barriers but has also successfully developed nine world-leading heavy ion therapy technologies, setting new benchmarks for industry development.
As the first hospital in China to operate two heavy ion therapy systems simultaneously, the center has accumulated valuable experience in the synchronized clinical application of dual systems. It has achieved breakthrough progress particularly in areas such as single-fraction one-day treatment regimens, precise radiotherapy under ventilator control, and bladder cancer treatment with accurate bladder volume management. The center's innovative "organ‑cancer isolation pad implantation for single‑session precision radiotherapy" and "dual Bragg peak lattice radiotherapy" techniques have successfully enabled the treatment of complex cardiac tumors with dynamic precision throughout the entire process. In addition, the center's original "heavy ion therapy integrated with whole‑life physical and mental health management model" seamlessly combines cutting‑edge technology with humanistic care, providing patients with comprehensive health protection.
To date, the Wuwei Heavy Ion Center has completed the treatment of over 2,800 patients. Its patient population covers all provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions across China, and has also attracted international patients from countries such as Australia, Belgium, South Korea, Malaysia, and Thailand seeking treatment.

At the conclusion of the visit, the leaders of the Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy Center of Ningbo University Affiliated People's Hospital spoke highly of the hospital's advanced radiotherapy equipment, standardized diagnosis and treatment system, warm and healing medical environment, and a series of breakthrough achievements in the field of heavy ion medicine. Both parties agreed to take this visit as an opportunity to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation in the promotion of tumor radiotherapy technology, scientific research collaboration, and talent training, jointly advancing China's radiotherapy cause to a higher level.
In the future, Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital will continue to build on its advantages in heavy ion technology, deepen its efforts in tumor diagnosis and treatment as well as health management, drive progress with scientific and technological innovation, and focus on service enhancement as a key lever. By continuously promoting the high-quality development of medical services, the hospital is committed to contributing even greater "heavy ion power" to safeguarding the life and health of the people.
