Proton therapy is the most advanced cancer treatment technology in the world in the 21st century, suitable for over 50 types of solid tumors such as gliomas, lung cancer, liver cancer, pancreatic cancer, and others. It is particularly suitable for patients who are not suitable or unwilling to undergo surgical resection, as well as for patients for whom traditional treatments have been ineffective. Proton therapy has significant advantages such as minimal side effects, remarkable efficacy, and lack of pain.

Since its official clinical application in March 2020, the Wuwei Proton Therapy Center has treated nearly 1,600 patients, including individuals from all provinces and cities in China as well as countries such as Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Belgium, and Australia.

In September this year, after four and a half years of clinical application, the Wuwei Proton Therapy System underwent iteration and upgrade. Treatment chambers 3 and 4, equipped with robotic arms for patient treatment, were put into use. The positioning time was reduced from the previous 30 minutes to less than 15 minutes, and the number of treatments increased from 50 patients per month to 100 patients per month. By the end of October this year, as part of the "Strong Province Capital" initiative, the Lanzhou Proton Therapy System, operated under the auspices of Wuwei City, had all four treatment chambers fully operational. Wuwei Tumor Hospital in Gansu Province now utilizes 8 treatment chambers simultaneously, increasing treatment capacity to 200 patients per month. This will provide more convenient and efficient medical services for a large number of cancer patients.

The hospital has continuously innovated in clinical applications, introducing several globally pioneering technologies such as High-Frequency Oscillation Respiratory Tube-Controlled Proton Precision Therapy and Single-Session Proton Therapy with Surgical Insertion Pads between Organs and Tumors. They have implemented a comprehensive "biological, social, psychological" medical model to provide holistic, lifelong health management. The hospital actively explores a Chinese approach to combining proton therapy with traditional Chinese medicine for cancer treatment and strives to establish China's first specialized proton therapy tumor rehabilitation institution.

It is understood that in order to effectively address the issue of medical expenses and provide financial support for cancer prevention and treatment for the general population, the Gansu Wuwei Tumor Hospital, in collaboration with China Life Insurance and other insurance companies, has launched the "Million Medical Expenses + Proton Therapy Green Channel" project. Individuals who purchase insurance under this project can receive a total coverage of 5.55 million RMB (4.05 million comprehensive medical insurance + 1.5 million proton therapy medical insurance) for proton therapy and other comprehensive treatments when diagnosed with an illness. The insurance company provides a one-stop medical expense reimbursement service. This project has benefited a large number of patients receiving proton therapy and comprehensive treatments.

In order to make the journey of patients' medical treatment smoother and more considerate, the Gansu Wuwei Tumor Hospital has partnered with Southern Airlines Media to launch the "Proton Therapy Patient Accompaniment Green Medical Aviation High-Quality Service" project. When patients and their accompanying family members choose to fly with Southern Airlines to seek treatment at the Gansu Wuwei Tumor Hospital, they will enjoy VIP-level services such as access to Southern Airlines' VIP lounge and priority boarding without queuing. This initiative aims to make the patients' medical journey warm and convenient.

At the press conference, the unveiling ceremony of the South Airlines Media Group Staff Recuperation Base was held, jointly unveiled by Cai Qinghua, Vice President of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital, and Yang Jun, Deputy General Manager of South Airlines Group Cultural Media Company.
