Choosing the Right Path for Gallbladder Preservation in Hexi! Gansu Wuwei Tumor Hospital Second Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery (Hepatobiliary Center): Over 200 Successful Cases, Guarding Gallbladder Health Without Blind Decisions
In the treatment of gallstones and gallbladder polyps, the choice between "gallbladder preservation" and "cholecystectomy" has always been a core concern for patients, and "standardized gallbladder preservation" is the key to avoiding health risks and ensuring treatment effectiveness. As a benchmark department in the field of minimally invasive gallbladder preservation in Wuwei and the Hexi region, the Second Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery, Hepatobiliary Center of Gansu Wuwei Tumor Hospital, with over 200 successful surgical experiences, provides patients in the region with a reliable choice for scientific gallbladder preservation.
Department Director Xing Wenjun has been deeply involved in the field of minimally invasive gallbladder preservation for many years, leading the team to skillfully perform single-port laparoscopic gallbladder-preserving stone/polyp removal surgery and single-port scarless choledochoscopic gallbladder preservation surgery. To date, they have completed over 200 clinical cases. All surgeries adhere to the principles of "scientific evaluation, precise operation, and safety." Patients are strictly screened for indications preoperatively. During surgery, stones and polyps are precisely removed via high-definition endoscopy, preserving the normal physiological function of the gallbladder to the greatest extent. Postoperative follow-up shows that patients recover quickly with well-preserved gallbladder function, and no severe complications have occurred. The surgical outcomes have been widely recognized by patients. For patients unsuitable for gallbladder preservation, scarless single-port laparoscopic cholecystectomy is performed. The patient's health and quality of life are firmly considered the primary factors, combined with the patient's age, to maximize treatment benefits.

As an authoritative force in regional gallbladder preservation treatment, Department Director Xing Wenjun, with his profound professional expertise, holds several important academic positions, including Standing Committee Member of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association's Tumor and Gallbladder Protection Professional Committee, Standing Committee Member of the Chinese General Practitioners Association's Minimally Invasive Gallbladder Preservation Committee, and Vice Chairman of the Gansu Provincial Choledochoscopy Alliance. He also leads or participates in the work of regional academic organizations such as the Gansu Provincial Geriatrics Society's Minimally Invasive Gallbladder Preservation and Minimally Invasive General Surgery Professional Committees, serving as Deputy Director and Standing Committee Member. He remains at the academic forefront, bringing standardized gallbladder preservation techniques and concepts to the Hexi region. Our department (Second Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery) is the Vice Chairman Unit of the Gansu Provincial Choledochoscopy Alliance.

From September 7-9, 2025, the 10th National Endoscopic Gallbladder-Preserving Stone Removal Conference, hosted by the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association and organized by our department (Second Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery), was held in our hospital's Lanzhou branch. The Second Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery's team led by Xing Wenjun demonstrated scarless single-port laparoscopic endoscopic gallbladder-preserving stone removal, robot-assisted gallbladder-preserving stone removal, and robot-assisted common bile duct exploration with primary suture stone removal to national experts, representing new technologies in gallbladder preservation within the Hexi region and the province. These demonstrations received consistent praise and recognition from Liu Jingshan, Chairman of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association's Tumor and Gallbladder Protection Professional Committee, Lu Jizhou, Chairman of the Gansu Provincial Choledochoscopy Alliance, and other domestic experts.

Furthermore, the research and development project "Comparison of the Therapeutic Effects between Single-Port Laparoscopic Endoscopic Gallbladder-Preserving Polyp Removal and Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy" (2025WW02796), initiated by the Second Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery team led by Xing Wenjun, has been included in the third batch of municipal key R&D plans for 2025 in Wuwei City.
Currently, some non-standardized gallbladder preservation practices suffer from issues such as lack of rigorous preoperative evaluation, incomplete intraoperative clearance, and irregular postoperative follow-up. These not only may lead to consequences like stone recurrence and impaired gallbladder function but also misguide patients' understanding of gallbladder preservation treatment and damage the reputation of standardized gallbladder preservation department.
Wuwei Tumor Hospital's Second Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery always support the core principles of "scientific gallbladder preservation, standardized diagnosis and treatment." Relying on mature minimally invasive techniques, a comprehensive preoperative evaluation system, and meticulous postoperative management, we provide patients in Wuwei and the Hexi region with high-quality gallbladder preservation services that are "visible and tangible." We firmly believe that only by following medical principles and adhering to diagnostic and treatment standards can we truly guard patients' gallbladder health.
