Your Customized Scientific Weight Loss Plan

—A High-Protein Nutritional Drink to Start a Sustainable Health Journey

Amid busy medical work, we carefully care for patients but often have little time to look after our own health. Does the desire for a lighter body and more abundant energy always emerge when we are tired, only to be set aside helplessly amidst the daily rush?

Many colleagues have tried to manage their weight but may fall into the "yo-yo" cycle of losing weight only to regain it. The root cause often lies in extreme dieting. When the body senses a "famine" signal, it intelligently lowers the basal metabolic rate and stores energy frantically when you resume eating, leading to rapid weight rebound, loss of precious muscle, and leaving behind fatigue and frustration.

True scientific weight management is by no means about starving oneself. Its core is creating a "negative energy balance" and employing key strategies to preserve muscle and maintain metabolism. In this, sufficient high-quality protein plays an indispensable role. It provides a lasting feeling of fullness and protects muscles from loss—because muscle is the body's "fat-burning engine." Preserving muscle means safeguarding our vigorous basal metabolism.

However, there is always a gap between sound theory and convenient practice. For those of us who are busy, how can we accurately prepare low-calorie meals rich in high-quality protein and dietary fiber every day? Our solution: the "White Key" from the Clinical Nutrition Department.

It is the "guardian of satiety": Blending high-quality whey protein and dietary fiber, it gently yet lastingly quells hunger, allowing you to calmly resist the temptation of unhealthy snacks.

It is the "defender of muscle": While you create a caloric deficit through dietary control, it ensures the body primarily uses fat for energy instead of breaking down precious protein, thereby effectively maintaining your lean body mass and counteracting metabolic slowdown.

It is the "enabler of a convenient life": As an efficient meal replacement, on busy mornings or afternoons, just mix a cup in two minutes for a nutritionally balanced meal, replacing high-sugar, high-fat quick fixes. As a quality supplement post-exercise, timely consumption after activity can efficiently promote muscle repair and growth, doubling the effect of your workout.

Introduction to the Clinical Nutrition Department

The Clinical Nutrition Department, an essential component of the modern healthcare system, originates from a profound understanding of the relationship between food and health. Over years of development, it has evolved from simply providing dietary advice into a comprehensive discipline that integrates prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.

Its primary responsibility is to apply nutritional knowledge, combined with clinical medical practice, to provide patients with personalized nutritional assessments, consultations, and nutritional intervention plans. The goal is to improve patients' nutritional status, promote disease recovery, and enhance their quality of life through scientific nutritional interventions.

Since its establishment, the Clinical Nutrition Department at Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital has continuously improved its professional capabilities and service quality with the guidance of hospital leadership and support from all departments. It has become the chair unit of the Oncology Nutrition Branch of the Gansu Nutrition Society and was added as a national pilot unit for clinical nutrition department construction in 2023.

The department team currently has 4 staff members: one chief nutritionist, one attending physician, and two nutrition nurses. The department is committed to providing professional services and strong support with a high sense of responsibility and enthusiasm to promote patient recovery and health.

The department currently primarily conducts the following services: formulating individualized parenteral and enteral nutrition treatment plans, preparing enteral nutrition formulations, and conducting nutritional education.

Firstly, formulating individualized nutrition treatment plans: According to national standards, the department has established a standardized nutritional intervention process of screening-assessment-diagnosis-treatment. It conducts nutritional risk screening, nutritional status assessment, malnutrition diagnosis, and dietary guidance for inpatients.

The department participates in nutritional consultations for inpatients, guiding the development of enteral and parenteral nutrition treatment plans based on patient needs and collaborating with the attending physician to evaluate the clinical effectiveness of the nutrition therapy.

Secondly, preparation of enteral nutrition formulations: The department has established an enteral nutrition preparation room with a certain scale and a 300,000-class cleanliness level, equipped with water purification equipment.

Depending on the nutritional metabolic characteristics and needs of various patients, it can prepare various oral or nasal feeding nutritional solutions, achieving individualized preparation of enteral nutrition formulations to meet various clinical nutritional therapy needs.

Thirdly, nutritional education: Adhering to the "health-centered" philosophy, the Clinical Nutrition Department strengthens communication with healthcare professionals and patients in various clinical departments. It actively provides scientific and reasonable nutritional treatments, dietary guidance, and nutritional education for patients and the public to further popularize scientific nutritional knowledge.

Additionally, the department carries out health education activities through various forms such as community nutrition clinics, distributing health diet education materials, and conducting health science lectures. These efforts aim to provide the public with correct nutritional knowledge, rationally guide them to establish proper dietary concepts, improve public health literacy, and contribute to achieving the national "Health for All" goal.

Fourthly, nutrition outpatient clinic: In the future, the department plans to launch nutrition consultation, nutrition training, and nutrition health education services for various groups, as well as examination items like body composition analysis and energy metabolism measurement.

It will be responsible for assessing body composition and nutritional metabolism for individuals undergoing physical exams, outpatients, and inpatients, accurately evaluating their nutritional status.

The department will provide scientific and reasonable dietary treatment plans, nutritional guidance, and education for people needing weight gain or loss, and patients with conditions such as liver disease, diabetes, obesity, and gout. Meanwhile, it will prescribe home feeding nutritional formulations for tube-fed patients and provide consultations and education on home feeding.

In the future, we will continue to deepen our clinical nutrition services, expand the scope of our business, and provide more comprehensive and professional nutritional services for patients. We believe that with the continuous development and improvement of the Clinical Nutrition Department, we will be able to bring health and hope to more patients.
