Patients from Hong Kong, Taiwan, and other countries are coming to Wuwei, Gansu for treatment, attracted by this major national piece of equipment

On May 28, 2023, the completion, commissioning, and opening ceremony of the heavy ion branch of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital was held. From that day forward, 42 medical disciplines, including oncology, gastroenterology, and hepatology, commenced full operations at the hospital's heavy ion branch.

Currently, patients from across the country, including Hong Kong and Taiwan, have been routinely coming to this hospital for treatment, and international patients from countries such as Belgium and Luxembourg have also started seeking medical care here.

Xia Jiawen, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said in his speech that the heavy ion branch of the Wuwei Cancer Hospital covers a large area, has a advanced scale and beautiful environment, making it a "hospital that least resembles a hospital," which is beneficial for patient recovery. This branch integrates diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation into a complete chain, and the heavy ion therapy equipment within the hospital has become a powerful weapon against cancer and tumors.

Chen Yifu, the Vice Mayor of Wuwei City, stated that the opening of the heavy ion branch is a happy event in the city's people's wellbeing field.He introduced that the heavy ion branch is equipped with China's first heavy ion therapy system with independent intellectual property rights, which has already treated 739 cancer patients.

In recent years, the hospital has fully leveraged the advantage of "TCM holistic treatment based on syndrome differentiation + precise heavy ion therapy," and is committed to building China's first professional heavy ion cancer rehabilitation institution.

Mi Denghai, former President of the Gansu Provincial Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Counselor of the Gansu Provincial Government, said that the Wuwei Cancer Hospital is expected to become a health check-in destination. He mentioned that China's independently developed heavy ion equipment has characteristics superior in many aspects to those produced by other countries. Patients traveling across the oceans to seek treatment at the Wuwei Medical Science Academy Tumor Hospital indicate that the hospital possesses many high-quality resources in cancer treatment.

Ye Yanchang, President of the Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital, introduced the operation and construction status of the heavy ion branch.  He said that the branch's smart cloud hospital has powerful functions, achieving the management goal of "double cloud" with workstation terminals having no computer hosts and the hospital having no network computer rooms. The architectural style of the branch breaks away from the traditional image of towering buildings in tertiary Grade A hospitals, presenting itself as a garden-style medical complex seamlessly connected by a long corridor-style main hospital street.

Wu Jiaming, Chief Physicist from Taiwan's Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, praised the domestically produced heavy ion equipment. He said that in hospitals in Taiwan, imaging equipment mostly comes from European and American countries, but upon coming to the mainland, he discovered that not only imaging equipment but even heavy ion equipment can be manufactured independently, which he sincerely admired.

At the opening ceremony, the Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital also signed medical consortium agreements with the Gansu Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Liangzhou District Hospital.
