Please Lay Down the Burden of Your Worries, PET-CT Easily Eases Your Mind
Modern humans face high cancer incidence rates, leading to great concern about one's own life and health, sometimes even to the point of restlessness. But please don't worry. Wuwei Medical Science Academy Cancer Hospital has a device that detects tumors in the body like a radar; it is currently the best detection equipment in Gansu Province; known as the radar of life; it is a device capable of early tumor detection and evaluating the efficacy of cancer treatment. Its full name is PET-CT.

PET stands for Positron Emission Tomography, commonly known as "PET", an advanced nuclear medical imaging technology. CT is the abbreviation for Computed Tomography, an X-ray tomography imaging technology widely used clinically and still rapidly developing. Integrating these two technologies organically into the same device and displaying the different types of images with fusion imaging on the same machine forms PET/CT.

As is well known, malignant tumor cells are "robbers" within the human body. They have very high metabolic activity and plunder nutrients from the body. Glucose is one of the main energy sources for human cells (including tumor cells), so malignant tumors consume far more glucose than other normal tissues. Based on this characteristic, glucose labeled with a radioactive nuclide is used as an imaging agent (i.e., 18F-FDG) and injected into the body, causing it to accumulate in tumorous and other pathological tissues. This appears as a bright spot on the image. The degree of this accumulation is quantified in PET-CT using the SUV value, a commonly used semi-quantitative indicator in tumor diagnosis, which holds significant value in evaluating treatment efficacy. PET-CT imaging is like installing a GPS tracker on a villain; no matter where they go, they can be successfully located within the vast crowd.
You no longer need to worry. Simply get a regular PET-CT scan periodically to prevent major diseases in advance.
The following 3 types of people need a PET-CT scan:
● Individuals with a family history of cancer
Cancer cells can be passed to the next generation through genetic genes. Therefore, if one immediate family member has cancer, other family members have a higher probability of developing cancer compared to the average person. This is especially true for families with histories of highly hereditary cancers like uterine cancer, cervical cancer, ovarian cancer, liver cancer, lung cancer, etc. Early acceptance of this examination is necessary to screen for initial cancer cells, allowing for timely targeted treatment to control cancer cell spread and reduce the chance of cancer onset.
● Individuals with chronic diseases
Everyone's immune system and ability to fight viruses differ. If you suffer from chronic diseases such as hepatitis, gastroenteritis, gastric ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, hyperglycemia, Helicobacter pylori infection, etc., the diseased cells may continuously attack healthy cells, potentially activating cancer cells, leading to decreased immunity and resistance, comprehensively damaging the body's immune defenses, and consequently shortening lifespan. Therefore, individuals with chronic diseases are also advised to undergo this examination.
● Cancer patients
This examination can not only screen for cancer cells but also evaluate the efficacy of anti-cancer treatments. It allows doctors and patients to understand the progression of the disease more clearly. Currently, this examination is widely used clinically and can serve as a monitoring method throughout the entire treatment course. Therefore, individuals already diagnosed with cancer should undergo this examination as early as possible to better prevent recurrence.

Although PET-CT is expensive, its clinical diagnostic and therapeutic effects are significant. Through continuous updates and generations, it now collects cancer cell information more accurately and has improved image resolution. Coupled with increasingly mature technology, it will undoubtedly be able to screen for more cancers that threaten human health in the future, bringing medical imaging to new heights.

The PET-CT Center at Gansu Wuwei Medical Science Academy Cancer Hospital has introduced the American GE Discovery 710 Clarity super iterative PET-CT, which is domestically the most advanced 256-ring LBS crystal PET/128-slice spiral CT. This equipment is the fourth PET-CT in Gansu Province and the only one in prefectural-level city hospitals across the province. It is a super iterative device launched by GE (USA) that leads the current world trend, offering higher sensitivity and specificity compared to ordinary PET/CT. Its unique high spatial resolution of 1.8mm can greatly enhance the detection capability for minute lesions, while significantly reducing the scan time for full-body examinations, lowering the radiation dose for the examinee, and yielding ideal diagnostic results. It is hailed as the crown of modern high-tech medicine. The center boasts first-class radiopharmaceutical rooms and is equipped with a medical cyclotron system capable of producing various dedicated tracers (such as 11C, 13N, 18F) needed for diagnosing different diseases. The purity of the produced pharmaceuticals exceeds national standards, reaching world-class levels, safeguarding precise diagnosis for the majority of patients. Our hospital's PET-CT Center has also become a PET-CT center in Gansu Province that simultaneously conducts 11C and 18F imaging.
