Breakthrough in Technology! Our Hospital's Cardiovascular Department Successfully Completes First "One-Stop" Procedure of Radiofrequency Ablation + Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion for Atrial Fibrillation Patient
Recently, our hospital's cardiovascular department has achieved a significant technological breakthrough—the team successfully performed a combined procedure of atrial fibrillation radiofrequency ablation and left atrial appendage occlusion.
This marks the department's first time conducting a left atrial appendage occlusion surgery, indicating a new level of expertise in the field of minimally invasive arrhythmia treatment and offering better diagnostic and therapeutic options for cardiovascular patients in the region.
Case Introduction
The patient is an elderly woman who sought medical attention due to recurrent palpitations and was diagnosed with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation.
After a thorough assessment of the patient's condition and the feasibility of the procedure, our cardiovascular team decided to adopt the internationally advanced "one-stop" surgical approach to address both the treatment of atrial fibrillation and stroke prevention in a single procedure. The surgery was performed under local anesthesia and took only 2 hours to complete. During the procedure, the team utilized exquisite interventional procedure to accurately perform pulmonary vein isolation ablation, followed by the successful implantation of a left atrial appendage occluder. Left atrial angiography confirmed perfect occlusion results with no complications.
The patient recovered quickly, was able to get out of bed the next day, and her palpitations completely disappeared.

Treatment Scope of the Cardiovascular Department at Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital
The Cardiovascular Department primarily treats diseases including angina pectoris, acute myocardial infarction, and other types of coronary heart disease, primary hypertension, hypertensive emergencies and secondary hypertension, acute and chronic heart failure, primary and secondary cardiomyopathies, valvular heart diseases, myocarditis, and various arrhythmias.
The department has accumulated considerable clinical experience in the treatment and management of geriatric cardiovascular diseases and chronic heart conditions.
Treatment Technologies in the Cardiovascular Department
The department employs advanced technologies. The coronary team routinely performs emergency and elective coronary angiography, coronary balloon angioplasty, intracoronary thrombolysis, thrombus aspiration, and stent implantation, as well as interventional treatments for complex chronic total occlusion (CTO) coronary lesions. Intravascular ultrasound and FFR examinations can be conducted during procedures.
In the electrophysiology area, the department is capable of performing permanent single- and dual-chamber pacemaker implantations, CRT/CRT-D implantations, ICD implantations, and intracardiac electrophysiological studies for arrhythmias such as paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia, premature ventricular contractions, ventricular tachycardia, atrial tachycardia, atrial flutter, and atrial fibrillation, radiofrequency ablation, and left atrial appendage occlusion.
The department also keeps up with advancements in heart failure and hypertension treatments, actively conducting internal professional learning sessions based on the latest guidelines and expert consensus to provide patients with the most current and appropriate treatment plans.
